Wow 😮. I can understand if the entire box of food was rotten but there’s people who could find the good food and consume it. This seems like a waste to me. Our grocery store sorts the food and sells what’s edible cheap.

it's designed into this CULTure of waste and inefficiency so that profits maintain growth even at the expense of humanities health. It's my belief that when we focus on a healthy humanity that a healthy economy becomes a positive side effect however the reverse is not true. The fruit rots quickly on the shelf of the Gross ReStore because of the high fee with it unnaturally ripening in route instead of at the root how nature works naturally for everyone everywhere. Luckily locally is a simplest form of living while promoting health, happiness, peace and abundance with side effects of healthier landscapes that are less susceptible to fire, flood, erosion, drought, famine and homelessness. Solutions exist for all of the problems we face, it's just that they are not yet popular. That’s what I’m thinking as well. Why throw it away instead of giving it to food pantry. Mark it down to sell . It’s better to throw it away…. ?????? It’s a shame

My local Kroger has been really good about marking down foods with a limited shelf life remaining, but I'm noticing this year we're getting less and less while prices go up more. The food pantries have become so limited and turning people away saying they're at capacity.

The food is corporate like most of our economy in the 21st century dystopian era rather than being systems that offer people life long careers, livelihood, and plenty of affordable services like food and energy which is how the country used to be. Why do you throw it in a hole? Is it good to feed chickens and pigs? Is less and less food showing up at food pantries so corporations like Kroger aren't just giving away profit to lots of people in line for it so we're all forced to pay the hyper inflationary prices they're setting? This country had so much awesome potential, but has ran so far astray due to evil greed. We don't need a wonky communist socialist system, but need a fair free market economy instead so that people are empowered, satisfied, and able to take care of themselves. Our country is a corporation.

it has already been gleened for chickens, pigs, goats and cows... much of this is moldy or onions, peppers, or oranges...I'm vastly undermanned for the projects I'm supporting so I'm doing the best I can with the time and resources I have. The hole is part of an anaerobic composting program that best utilizes the space available with minimal input of hours or fuel.

Why throw it away?

it's not being thrown away... it's being composted instead of being thrown away. a lot of it is rotting away when I get it... it's filtered first for animal food, this is what is left over.
