Good stuff Kenny. The first video of yours that I saw was about Ornette Coleman. That late 50s/early-60s jazz period was amaizing. Perhaps America's greatest contribution to music. You've given me some new-to-me stuff to explore. Enjoy! ✌️👍👊🤙🙂

I see you checked out my Bad Plus (In Stitches) recommendation hahaha 😃 I also checked out some of your recommendations. I listened to The Roots (Stablemates) album this afternoon. I'm going to leave you another recommendation I think you might enjoy? The artist is Susannah Mccorkle song (Waters of March). Enjoy👍

Her version is very good but I like two other versions a bit better...on version was done by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Elis Regina and another version by Sergio Mendes and Brasil 88. Mark Murphy has a version of the song but it's not as good as the other 2.

Roots with Buster Williams on bass or Cecil Mcbee on bass were gigs to remember. Saw them once with Chico Freeman , Bennie Golson . Once a version of the band with Ed Thigpin ! Chico Freeman came to London every year in the 80s and played Ronnie Scott’s club . Excellent gigs with Santi Debriano . Pianists like Kenny Barron , Delmar Brown , John Hicks , Kirk lightsey , George Cables !, what a list . That was a golden era of gigs . Once in 1989 me and my friend another dream pianist called Robbie turn up and the Rolling Stones mobile studio is outside the club ! Set one the record an outstanding version of foot prints . Wow . And the record came out . Chico Freeman and Arthur Blythe live at Ronnie Scott’s. That stuff is on KZitem

Thanks for the recommendation of the Roots album, Stablemates, Kenny. I listened to it on Qobuz and, damn, it’s really good. Hard to go wrong with a band that includes Don Pullen, Chico Freeman, Sam Rivers, and the always underrated Arthur Blythe. Wonderful version of Stolen Moments. Most likely you have one or more copies of it, but have you heard Arthur Blythe’s “Lennox Avenue Breakdown?”

My fav album on repeat play over the past month or so has been Glass Houses by Billy Joel . Love it from start to Finnish. Then I’m getting back to Jazz , was checking to Jaco Pastorius early years demos . Time Lapse a groove he did that didn’t make it to his solo lps is cool

I love The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby, it’s such a unique record and definitely has a vibe. But the sound quality seems to vary track to track. I would say her prior album “Dorothy’s Harp” might be more appealing to some people - much better sound, no vocals (if I recall correctly), but some of the same uniqueness. “Afro-Harping” is also incredible!

Hey Kenny, curious if you use a mono cart every time you listen to a mono recording? Maybe you have an amp with "mono" mode? thanks as always -- great video !!

Thank you 😊. I use a mono cartridge for older mono records. Sometimes I will use a stereo cart for newer reissue mono records but I never use a mono/stereo switch.
