Thank you for this video I am in the process of purchasing a house with wooden beams throughout and they are painted black. I am look at returning them to a more natural look and was thinking of a belt sander. Most videos I have seen use a sand blasting technique which wouldn't suit, so this video was perfect. Thank you

Hey Pete... what route did you end up taking? I’m trying to restore just one beam and a post. Any suggestions on how to best restore back to bare wood?

Hi Pete, looking to do the same to our beams. Did it work? Did it look okay?

I'm in the process of stripping five very old and irregular beams in-situ, each about 3 yards long. After a little research I ended up buying a battery powered angle grinder. Combined with a 40 grit flap disk it works a treat. I did briefly try drill and wire brush cup but the grinder wins hands down.

Yes…made this video a while ago. Would now have used the grinder!

Can you wrap paint stripper with cling to speed it up

One option you could throw in there is a sanding disc and that i would use now to make the job quicker. Harbor Freight has some cheap ones that will do the job

A good sandblaster will strip and then raise the grain by removing the softer wood. I used glass blast media to remove stain on the beams in my old home and it looks amazing with the raised grain. A wire wheel on a drill works for touch up work.

Thank you for that...knew there had to be easier/quicker way.
