Thank you for posting this! This is the best video I've seen for really illustrating the effects of the different setups! It was fantastic that you didn't just show the zoomed in final results, you actually showed the zoomed out view of how everthing was set up, and how the turning the various lights on one at a time affected the light! Very thorough!

Hi, In terms of cameras, I can recommend the sony fs100 as your main camera and the sony nex5n for a cheap but decent second camera. Both cameras use the same lens mount, so it saves you from having to get a second set of lenses. This is the setup I just upgraded to, along with some cheap canon FD lenses and adaptors, which work very well with the sony E-mount. I hope this advice helps in some way, I am just starting out as well and these cameras have really worked well for me so far!

Great tutorial video, thank you for all the Poitiers and clear demonstrations. I looked around and the lights, background, camera, microphone, etc. make for a pretty expensive bundle. Could you make a tutorial video on how to do all this with a small budget, please? The result won't be the same of course, but it would be a good starting point before investing.

It depends on what bulbs, if they are compact fluorescent you can multiply the initial wattage by 4. These have 4 50w bulbs in each head and 3 bulbs in the hair light making a total of 550W so the output is equivalent to 2200W.

Now I know this is an ancient video BUUUUT thanks for making it! I especially liked how you explained the film noir lighting. I am right now in the process of setting up my home studio to do a gaming channel specializing in online poker tournaments. The home studio will be used for my webcam image. My editor (as much of a novice as I am) watched your video and she LOVED the film noir look and thinks I should do it for my webcam for my gaming channel. Not sure about that but will give it a try in at least one test video. As I will be wearing a tuxedo in relaxed formal style (bow tie undone and top shirt button unbuttoned), it might just be a good lighting choice. Anyway, thanks for making this video.
