One of the appeals of the Ami for me is that it isn't loaded with the usual technology but functions as a small and uncomplicated car designed for local trips. I hope to see many of them on our roads soon.

Citroen seems to really be pushing the idea that cars don't have their own computers and just use a phone. That's a solid idea. The Oli concept car seems to live up to that ideal as well and has the same look as the Ami prototype had. I really wish Citreon would step up sales in the rest of Europe.

As Richard Brunning from the Bad Obsession Motorsport [Binky!] boys might say: "Three weeks? That's almost FIVE WEEKS!" 😁 Glad things are still amicable between you and your new pal, but this most recent addition to its repertoire makes me feel a little uncomfortable. What's Citroën up to? I'm so (gleefully!) out of touch with the modern digital world that I don't even have a smart-phone. There's no way that I'd want to be part of a cosy network of Ami-gos, data-linked to a dealership-type thingy, or monitored constantly like some Tesla-Borg tertiary adjunct Muskrateer drone. I can see why Citroën has gone in for this wired and connected approach: peeps today don't feel whole unless they can run their homes, cars, fridges, central heating, TVs, kids, cats, dogs and lives from an app. But I hate all that interconnectivity and social media cobblers. As the Ami is a simple vehicle, I think Citroën should have eschewed the 'smart' side of things and made a Unique Selling Point of its LACK of bloatware and trendy app gubbins. The ancient 2CV is still popular precisely because it remains entirely analogue, user-serviceable and, more importantly, user-friendly. If I had an Ami (or a friend, sob, sniff...😢), I'd go out of my way to stay disconnected. I'd want to be in touch with fellow owners - real people who shared my passion - rather than trying to find ways to turn my vehicle into another app for my non-existent phone. Making the vehicle into a chic, boutique-level Apple product may appeal to the Yuppie demographic, but I thought the Ami was all about independence and simplicity.🤔 Cut the umbilical, Citroën. Set your little friend free.

You can buy a 3 or 4 socket USB Hub and put it in the Ami's USB Socket. You could then plug in an old Mobile Phone with your own Music Library in it and Play your Driving Music. It also means you have 2 or 3 extra USB Sockets. Perhaps an Internal or Desktop Heater that works with a USB Socket.

Interesting to learn when the OBD port is on: Is it on while connected to AC, even if key is off? Allowing to watch status from inside, if you parked right outside. Is it always on? I wouldn't expect that, because it cause extra drain. If you have to enter the car, and turn the key switch on, to use the app, I think you can just as well use the instrument cluster. If you watch charging from inside home, I think the app makes more sense.

You will have problems with the "my citron app" the moment it logs me out twice today, it stopped tracking my car movements, and when you trying to refresh it to see how much charge your car is currently getting it takes 2 to 3 minutes to get the data and sometimes you have to just close the app and restart it refresh it. A lot of people have left negative reviews on the Google play store regarding this app. I think it's best if you completely remove the app from the phone once a month it will work very well until the problems start back happening again.

I used to have a Nissan Leaf and that had an app called LeafSpy that connected to the port. It allowed you to get right in and see the battery state of charge, how the individual modules were fairing, remaining percentage and range (in miles & km), and also allowed you to check and clear error codes, change lighting etc. Shame there isn't an app as comprehensive for the AMI.

The Citroen Leaf battery management system is so advanced because it's the first of it's type, pouch batteries in rigid cases with what must be the most advanced bms yet. That beast is using serious compute to manage the battery, and the software apps for phone and especially pc are a direct result of this origin. They want to recall and test as many as possible, because when they were made they didn't know how they would perform long term. The data about 80% charge came from this system; that is, if stay between 80% and 30%, you get near infinite cycles.

It's interesting that the AMI is twice as cheap as a Dacia Spring, yet the latter has double the orders, from what I can find online. I expect that the freezing-roasting, back breaking experience of the AMI owners will finally steer people away from this cool looking vehicle, and into the hands of Dacia dealers. The AMI will be great on the second hand market, as the low resale value would justify buying one as a second vehicle, to move around the city and park wherever one wants.
@ModernHeroes

It’s less than a fifth of the cost of a Tesla Model Y yet they sell more of those too 🤷♂️ it’s almost as if different vehicles appeal to different people for different reasons isn’t it? 🤔

@@ModernHeroes My point was that these two vehicles are the cheapest new EVs on the market - the target audience, price wise, would be the same. I doubt Tesla Y buyers would consider either of the two as alternatives. Hence my question - why would the same group of people choose an uglier vehicle? I suppose comfort takes precedence to design. Anyway, it's a moot point for the UK, as you are currently not getting the Dacia. I guess the AMI would be sole choice.
