About Rod
Rod Lucas has been playing Smooth Jazz on British radio since 1971 (BBC Radio Medway/Kent) starting at the tender age of 15. In those early 70's Rod featured people like Milt Jackson, Stanley Turrentine, Hubert Laws, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Cal Tjader, Erroll Garner, Ramsey Lewis, Sergio Santos Mendes & Donald Byrd. He also featured material from Spanish Flamenco guitarists including Paco de Lucia Luiz Bonfa. Latin singers too, like Maria Helena Toledo. Herb Alpert added to the whole feel of Smooth Jazz in those days with Rod in early 70's.
Then other Smooth Jazz artists came along, Bob James & Earl Klugh and all featured in Rod Lucas's his nightly BBC programs 'chat n grooves'. Rod would play all kinds of world music that had a sweet cross over 'funky' feel of chilled early 70's Smooth Jazz Grooves. Rod was one of the few in British radio playing it on BBC Radio back in the day.
