Honestly I was terrified you would ruin the dress like I see other people do in these “making a new dress” videos, but I think it looks super cute!!

Yeah, I don't really care what people do when upcycling a piece if they'll wear it or use it in some way, but sometimes they just look a bit odd. I started upcycling a vintage wedding dress from the 80s (I assume- its got really puffy sleeves and a long ass train with lots of beads and a sweetheart neckline) that I found at a thrift store for only a few dollars since it was one of the dump donation places, and not gonna lie 9th grade me tore that thing apart with no experience 😭😭 I only removed the sleeves, bow, and part of the train, but I still wish I started after I got my new sewing machine bc I didn't even have a functioning one at the time... so yeah, hopefully I'll be able to work on fixing it soon! I never finished it or did anything too permanent, so I have hope. Might find a way to turn it into a dress I can wear to prom- though I'd probably have to dye the fabric or add on colored fabric for it to look nice. Hopefully I succeed and can keep the excess for another project

Actually idk if it'd 100% be considered upcycling considering I'd be keeping the basic shape of the dress and not turning it into a completely different thing, but more transforming it? I think it could be considered upcycling, but I'm gonna try to keep as much of the original look as I can to make it work for me. I'm a wheelchair user, so no train allowed, but that also means I can keep weight on the dress without weighing me down a ton.

lol either way it’s fine cause it’s not like you’re wearing it. all those other flips where you think they ruined it would’ve ended up in a landfill without intervention. idk why people get so hung up on people changing things from the thrift for their own needs as if endless stuff isn’t there to choose from

just because you don’t like the final product doesn’t mean the dress is ‘ruined’

I love it so much! I really like how you can see the original dress still shine through- I personally don't mind if people completely change a piece to upcycle it, but I really enjoy being able to see how the piece started still integrated into the finished product. You did great on this! And I also experiment with sewing the piece still on my body lol... sometimes it's the only way you can be sure it'll be in the right place still 😂
