I have a Coleman small single mantel propane lantern. It produces a lot of light, plus an enormous amount of heat(the only downside).

I love these lanterns and the Coleman lanterns. Propane or gas. Have a battery one inside the house, but the two gas and propane ones I have in the garage are all I use for light when working out there. No lights wires in the building.

I have about 5 or 6 of the Primus lanterns that are slightly different than this one and also a cream yellow color. All are single mantle and the mantle hangs from the top inside. I use a 20lb propane tank with a Coleman camp propane tree on it. The tree holds the lantern high on top so it really lights up the area and it has a couple of extra ports to add a cookout grill or whatever you need. I hate to say but I also had an obsession with Coleman lanterns. I have about 40 or so of those. All different types from single mantle to double. I have tons of rebuild parts and loads of mantles in stock. I could light up the whole neighborhood if need be. I recently converted a red 200A single mantle lantern from a Coleman fuel burning lantern to a Kerosene only lantern. That thing works awesome. Had to buy a copper fuel bowl that sits inside of the globe that hold 91% alcohol to start the thing up. It's used to warm the fuel tube since Kero is harder to start than Coleman fuel. The Kerosene lantern is far hotter and brighter than the way it was with Coleman fuel. I had to buy a special generator to put in it which I got from "Old Coleman Parts" online. It will no longer run Coleman fuel now. I also have 5 Coleman double burner propane stove. Guess you could say I won't be worrying about light, heat or cooking items. I love the feeling of being prepared! I hope everyone is doing the same right now.

Thank you for demonstrating the correct way to do this. This thing generates a lot of heat. Great for winter blackout.

Couple of months ago I found a cast iron Dutch oven with lid for $2.50. I already had one but I couldn't pass it up.

Cook more than one thing on open fire that way. I got a couple. A little one would fit in my woodstove if needed.

I'm new to gas lanterns. Why do you need to burn the mantles before they are used?

Liked your post very much but I think I can do you one better. Yesterday I paid $2 for a Century Primus 5860 dual mantle with the Piezo ignition, still in the box with the paper work, with the base. Unfortunately there's no case; any idea where I can get hard case? Years ago I paid $4 for a Primus 51 stove at an urban Goodwill. So, yeah, I get it.
