I'm guessing that beautiful little piece was a telephone stand at some point in its life. We used to have something similar when I was a child. The telephone books were on that bottom shelf and the drawer held paper and pencils.

When I refinished my grandmother's old Cron-Kills Ladies Secretary Desk from the very early 1900s, it had quite a few distinct mistakes in the build. I agree that those mistakes add to the character and take a little off my shoulders. They still are beautiful pieces of furniture like this video shows. What a great job you did on this table with the intricate wood work around the drawer. Just beautiful!

@DashnerDesignRestoration
3 жыл бұрын
Buffing with steel wool smooths the surface and removes bits of dust that may have got into the finish before it dried. The wax is mostly a lubricant for the steel wool but it also gives a little protection against liquids. Thanks for watching.

Gorgeous - beautiful refinishing job! You mentioned that the fluting was not perfect - it is possible the piece was handmade. Recently I bought a pair of small mahogany end tables from overseas - with similarities to yours. They appear to be circa 1930s or 40s. However, when I put them side by side, I started to see very subtle differences between them - almost imperceptible unless you really looked closely. I contacted the antique store that I bought them from and he concurred that they, indeed, may have been handmade. Amazing craftsmen in those days!

Hey brother, big fan here....been tuning in for quite awhile. I've noticed recently that you've branched out from what was a pretty consistent collection of Mid Century pieces. What are your reasons for this? Are you seeing an uptick in interest within your local sales market for pieces like this depression table or the Deco piece you did recently? JP
@DashnerDesignRestoration
3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple reasons. One is that mcm stuff is really hard to find. The style in this video is plentiful and cheap. The other is that it’s a nice change of pace once in a while. I haven’t seen any increase in value for this style. It’s still not worth much around here. Most people buy this stuff to paint it.
