I can’t wait for these 4K projectors to keep coming down in price. I’m very happy with my 1080 Optoma Ultra Short throw projector I bought a few months ago ~$1K. I got it set up with a 92” screen. I remember a few years ago, I was at the local university and their IT dept purchased 10 JVC 4K projectors at around $10K each(I think the got a discount pricing for purchasing so many). So we’re getting there. I’m super happy with my 1080 Optoma.

Hey Alex! Thanks so much for your review. I just looked up the price of the projector on this review and it was way more than I want to spend..but noticed you said you were happy with yours and it was only $1k..so I tried looking it up on Amazon based on your description and couldn't find it. Would you be so kind as to give me a link to your model being sold on Amazon? And if you can include a link to the screen you used as well that would be great too as I have no idea what kind of screen to get and judging from this video that's an important factor too. Thanks so much!

Yes, and it's still not true 4k as it uses mirror pixel shifting technology. The chip is still 1080p, same as the LG but different 1080p chip and one more Lazer which means no color wheel. The only true 4K UST PJ is a Sony and it's 25K. The HDR on this is amazing. Pretty sure optoma (or someone else) has a 1080p version that does HDR and accepts 4K signals which then downscaled to 1080p but you still get HDR. ALR makes a HUGE difference. Fresnel looks like an LCD. Lectengulare works great as well. Each has their own pros and cons kzitem.info/news/bejne/k5Co3318bmere6w

I mounted mine to the ceiling, put all the wires in the walls, and I have it at max size with no issues! 499.99 is what I payed for mine. it is 15 feet from the wall, and the wall is my TV screen at 11 feet wide! We did our best to show lights on viewing in a bright white room, which is a worst case fro a projector, but we didnt have an option to test room with daylight as our studio and building havent got a suitable area. I have a few on my channel with more sunlight. I tried downloading copyright free demos from LG and Sony but those got yanked. My best guess is KZitem's algorithm picked up the logos and pulled them. Should be demonstrated side by side with a OLED TV. these guys are fooling people
@JoshFisher567
4 жыл бұрын
@@sparcx86channel42 then what's the point? To test against OLED you would have to change the picture size of the pj to whatever OLED you're comparing it to so 55"s to 65"s. At that point why even buy a projector? OLED is always going to beat DLP in black/contrast ratio due to the differences in technology so I can already tell you OLED has better black levels. The only thing I've seen that even comes close to projectotscreen size is a Samsung 85" QLED model and it's close to 6K. How are they trying to fool you? These new lectengulare based screens do great with bright material in pretty much and lightning condition due to having a 0.4 - 0.6 gain. Fresnel is even better (1.0 to 1.2 gain) but since it's hard screen (can't be rolled) makes it very hard to ship which is why it's primarily used in bright conference rooms. I've got two videos on my channel, one where there is a light turned on roughly a foot away from the screen. Who do you think I'm trying to confuse? It's a 100" 4K image and to me, it looks great on my Grandview dynamique UST ALR screen (0.4 gain). I think the cheapest 100" TV costs around 100k and is extremely heavy as they are essentially 4 UHD panels fused together using software to essentially make four TV's into one. I could be a bit off on that as it's been a while since I even looked due to the price being extremely high end.

Well, looks like my comment was deleted (I believe KZitem deleted the comment, not the channel owner, I jumped the gun) as I listed some of the downsides of this PJ. I highly recommend doing research on avsforums to get the details. It seems like every comment I make about these projectors having an offset get deleted. I really think this is something users should know before they buy something this expensive. Yes, it is listed in the specs but I don't believe most people really understand how much the offset makes with UST due to throw distance. This projector also has software issues, HDMI handshaking issues, and has problems playing HDR from certain sources like Apple TV. The Optima rep I have talked to said all of this will be addressed in a future firmware update but the last Time there was a software update was the end of November, 6 weeks after the projector came out. with all that said the picture quality is amazing and I love this projector and would not return it. I'm just really hoping they address some of the software issues via firmware update. EDIT: talked to optoma rep. Firmware update was delayed due to virus which is more than understabda. Also, the one great smart feature is smart fit. You do have to over shoot the screen as that's the only way it can work but works. perfectly.

We dont know the exact amount as we didnt measure it, so this is from memory, and we assume you are asking the height difference (ie how far above the projector should the screen be mounted), not the horizontal difference(distance to the screen to get the 100" picture)... it was about 1ft / 30cm
@JoshFisher567
4 жыл бұрын
No two projectors are going to be the same. Every projector has an offset. This was never really an issue with standard throw but due to the way the UST technology works for a 100 inches your looking at 13 1/2 minimum to just under 18 inches. There is no vertical lens shift. The offset is what it is. From pretty much every post on avsforums I've seen two people posting just under 14 minimum. I would expect 16 is probably the average but that is speculation. Optoma includes a measuring tool in the box. This is true for every UST projector. At least DLP. I'm unsure about the new Epson which is LCD. The LG seems to be more consistent but it also works differently which is why it costs quite a bit more than the optoma.

Yeah, even a 65" LG OLED (considered the best TV in the world right now) can be purchased for less than that. They are jacking up the price so high mainly because of the short throw feature making it far more convenient to opt for a projector now. Once the main players start making them in mass, prices will drop considerably. Suffice it to say, I believe LG and Samsung are in this market now as well. So, I suspect pricing is headed down soon.

This is more of an issue that its difficult to record a projector on a camera. It wasnt dark to look at but the camera iso etc need to be adjusted so that the brighter parts are not blown out, and that makes the darker sections look dimmer than they actually are.

Just be careful of this brand. Twice I replaced their 120hz gaming projector and still got one that was generating high pitched coil noise (not fan noise) that damages your hearing. I discovered lots of people having this issue and it takes several replacements to get one that works well. When contacting Optoma support, they simply responded the noise is normal. My advice is to avoid their products.

Throw out your TV because even at $200 you can get a 1080p projector with a way larger image size than that "affordable" TV. No need to be ultra rich anymore to have a decent projector setup.

@Dreamstate Same thing goes for Flat Panel TVs. Why does a 90" + cost $70,000+ ? It's just a larger screen with the SAME 4K image that a much smaller TV can show. Sometimes even BETTER than the larger TV can. The price of the Flat Panel TV should reflect that. Especially if it only gives you ONE SIZE. NO SMALLER, NO LARGER. STUCK WITH ONE SIZE FOR THE LIFE OF THE TV. The cost is inflated unnecessarily for the greed of the manufacturer and the reason given is a fallacy....

To save you all time the screen is basically 12£ and the projector is I think 3,200£ 4K TV’s are dramatically getting cheaper, really makes no sense financially. Come up with a projector that compares in price then you might have something worth talking about

Ik think the image on the roll down screen is misleading, okay they are not all tab tensioned screens, buy the screen you show is no actual presentation. Most screens are much more flat or ' thighter' than what you are showing..

I had a Optoma GT1080e while I loved it... I can't go back now that I use a 65" B9 OLED. The ability to use a TV during a sunny day and the fact that the TV has HDR just defeats any benefit a projector has. Projectors are good for Cinema room, But I am not rich enough for that.
@TriMuXx
4 жыл бұрын
Clearly the Optoma GT1080e didn't have enough brightness OR contrast ratio to work in the daylight. There are several other projector brands that DO. You cannot lump all projectors into the same category as the one model Optoma. My Epson EASILY works really well in the daytime with the blinds for the sliding glass door (which are right next to my 110" screen) pulled open and I have VERY LITTLE issue seeing the screen. What my Flat Panel TV did all the time was REQUIRE me to CLOSE the blinds because despite the ultra brightness that the panel was able to provide, the super glossy screen of the Flat Panel TV wouldn't let me see the image because of ALL of the GLARE I was getting. So if you're going to close the blinds for a flat panel TV ALSO, why not just get a projector instead? Full 1080p projectors are in the $180 - $200 range and the sheer image size dwarfs anything Flat Panels can offer in the same price range. Try other models/brands before making a final judgement. MODERN projectors have overcome A LOT of the obstacles of past projectors.
@ScanComputers

Its certainly true that a projector needs a bit of commitment to make it look at its best. For bright rooms with sunlight then you are correct, a modern TV will be brighter. But when it comes to getting very large screen size then projectors are the best way to go. :)

@@TriMuXx They may have improved sure but I can only go off my experience but not on the budget end... Unless you have a short throw laser sunlit room it's nowhere near as good as a LCD even with glare. Also using a projector in a brightly lit room you lose all the contrast and black level benefits so even if you see the screen it's not as rich as it looks on a QLED with FALD let alone a OLED Projectors made a world of a difference when standard TV sizes where 32-42"... 65", TV screen sizes are no longer a issue, you can grab a 65" LCD 4K for £500 and less now if your on a budget... Sub £800 DLPs are not good enough for bright rooms. The high end short throw laser projectors are the only things that would sway me but unless they support HDMI 2.1 and HDR at 120hz I'm not interested. I would much rather get a 77-85" OLED/QLED once prices go down to 2-3k.

@@Carrot_Handler Understood, however, living in an area where the sun is out 90% of the year and being able to setup a projector with a normal screen, NOT ALR, and be able to see the whole image, even contrast, while the huge sliding glass door right next to the screen has the blinds pulled back is a huge benefit. Also, every time I visit friends houses with Flat Panel TVs, the blinds are halfway pulled and the glare is covering up so much of the image that I would never know how great the contrast is or isn't because I see the patio furniture or an image of myself sitting on the couch. You could go for a non-glare Flat Panel TV, but now you have to completely change TV models/brands and lost all of the amazing benefits that TV had originally given you. My friends all close their blinds while watching TV during the day because they can't see the screen due to all of the glare from the light coming in. They even turn off lights in the room. My argument is, if you're going to close the blinds ANYWAYS, why not get a projector setup? A $250 Vankyo V630 Performance with the blinds closed is WAY cheaper than your supposed 65" and it DWARFS the 65" at 120" of image size. Right now projectors are becoming worth it in the battle against Flat Panel TVs when it comes to screen size. $70,000 for a 90" Flat Panel? Insanity!!
@Carrot_Handler

@@TriMuXx I don't disagree with what your saying, it's a case by case thing... Not universally better option either way you turn. Where my TV is positioned I get no glare from my TV in my living room but in my bedroom I do... That said the bedroom TV is mostly used at night. One of the biggest factors why I don't want to go back to a projector is space, In my living room and bedroom I have shelves and pictures on walls so even with a projector I have barely enough room for 70"... My wall mounted B9 at 65" is the max. The convenience of TV buying and set up is just not even in the same ball park, with a projector the imperfections in you screen/wall... The paint used and the space you have determine picture. I painted my wall a neautral medium gray to get the best contrast and black levels from my old Optoma and had to rearrange my living room to fit a 90" screen area. To most people a projector is not the right choice and the only projectors that eliviate the traditional projector pitfalls are short throw projectors which cost more than the average TV. Of course for some people a projector is no problem and if your informed you can get a amazing experience but it's not night or day difference compares to high end TVs... Intact OLEDs offer better image quality full stop unless your using a cinema proector. Worth 3k plus.
