I really appreciate the small little tips idea. Some form videos are too all encompassing and just too much to try to implement at one time. This was great.

I stopped using "reachback" and even "reaching out" to talk about this with others. Same thing with "pull through." I use either mechanical terms like "extension" or overall terms like "backswing" and "forward swing" (or just "swing). There's been a bit of a debate about these terms in the last year or more, so I've found it easier to avoid those terms entirely. I think of those as "feel" terms, and I think the more mechanically correct terms just eliminate even the potential for confusion.
@ArmoryDiscGolf

I try to use "coil" instead of "reach back" but old habits die hard. I still use "pull through" because I've found it's hard for beginners to conceptualize how to throw a disc without pulling it. Most actual new players try to throw discs like frisbees, so that terminology can be helpful. The worst rounding I've ever seen came after I told a player to just let his arm whip through 😂, so I'm trying to figure out a way to word it that helps beginners and veterans alike
@NickCarroll

@@ArmoryDiscGolf Yeah, totally. And if you think about it, from a standstill, you're largely reaching back, anyways. I actually like the terms, and I think that feel terms are useful, because a lot of what we do is actually by feel, even if the body is doing something mechanically more sophisticated.

Does nose down put the disc on a hyzer angle?
@ArmoryDiscGolf
2 жыл бұрын
No, but good question. Think of nose angle as the angle of the front side of the disc, whereas hyzer and answer deal with the angle of the sides of the disc. You can throw a hyzer (or anhyzer) nose up or nose down, but if you're trying to get maximum distance learning to throw nose down is better, for the reasons explained in the video. Hope this helps!

Top pros do not "pull through" the power pocket. They throw the disc out of the power pocket. Teaching a pull through the power pocket can have beginners collapsing the elbow angle too much and not getting a proper throw out. Reference any slow mo of drew, Paul, Rick, or eagle and you can see that their upper arm and shoulder angle either stays at 90 or barely passes 90 until after the disc is ejected out of the power pocket. I mention his because i, as a beginner, pulled through and now am having to relearn proper throwing techniques.

I'm totally new to the game, but I have to say keeping the disc away from my body helped alot (as I was keeping it tucked tight) and lowering my angle kept me from putting a heizer on all throws. (I was trying to keep the disc perfectly flat through my whole approach. Thanks so much for this!

Getting the disc into the power pocket with the elbow out is so much harder than it should be. 😂 I'm forever having my elbow pinched with my hand on the front of the disc. Not sure how to force it, but it is a game changer for sure.

Being only a week into this game you literally covered my issues that have began to form. I couldn’t figure out yesterday why I was throwing left then right now I know it’s the reach back being behind me. The nose angle down is something I always thought I’ll get to it as I learn the release but your method is nice to work on them both. Thank you for this!

HOW do I get the disc away from my body?
@ArmoryDiscGolf

I mean it depends on what you're doing wrong. Your front foot might need to be more staggered, your elbow may need to be higher, your shoulder might be pinched. Get those three things and you should find the disc farther away 👍
