Changing color is easier if you don’t ink up the pen cartridge or converter, but use it like a dip pen (they hold a surprising amount of ink in the nib). Great video, lots of new angles to think about. Thanks!

This reminds me of the line of coloring books called Magic Painting Books. They have the traditional black outlines, but there's also water soluble color printed on, that you activate with a paintbrush and clear water.

@@dannydrwing I think I'm actually remembering a much simpler version than I'm seeing online. It had lines of color printed beside the classic coloring book lines, and the resulting paint was pretty weak. But the new versions look pretty great, from the online photos.

Using a dip pen instead of a fountain pen to frequently swap inks would probably be much more efficient with the least amount of waste and contamination

Yes! I’ve since seen that a dip pen is way better for this. Might have to try it at some point.

I use less than 16 colors in total and for most paintings it's much more limited. If you're getting like 48 color sets that's wayyyy too much.

This was going to be my question, too - I’ve been hoping for more longform content from you ever since the gorgeous colorful sky and clouds painting you did in the short talking about sizing, which I would definitely have bought a tutorial to learn how to paint, sizing issues and all. So I vote yes on your general question from this video, and also think Skillshare would be foolish not to pay you for a tutorial on that gorgeous clouds piece, if you wanted to make one. :) Truly, though - I have just started to get into fountain pens (and hopefully a dip pen soon) myself, and would love to see more longform content from you on those, on watercolors, on your color theory stuff (I could see a Skillshare class on fruit that starts out the “wrong” colors doing well, too), or whatever else you get into. Different media, subjects, styles… Honestly, your interests and approach remind me of my own, just way more advanced, and I can’t imagine that whatever you decided to make wouldn’t be interesting and educational, wherever your process might take you at any given time. Here, on Skillshare, or wherever. Just make sure to let us know so we don’t miss it. :)

He did oooone non-watercolor video. Come on now. Besides, this honestly had a lot of overlap with watercolor technique, and made me want to consider ink and wash techniques more seriously in a way I wouldn’t have otherwise. I’m not affiliated with him or the channel at all (nor does he even know who I am), but as someone who was a professional working in the arts for a long time, I know what hard work it is, and every subscription helps a lot more than staying subscribed a little longer to see if the content might be worth your while hurts you, you know?
