Hungry Cat thanks so much for mentioning our hostel. Franklin is a great stop as it is midway on the BT and a great town to resupply and get a shower, grab a beer, and visit an outfitter. This summary is wonderfully informative and I wish I would have had such a concise resource when we did the BT last summer. ~ Sunsets

Thanks for watching! It was my pleasure and your reputation precedes you :-). I do hope we have the chance to meet sometime and suspect our paths will cross. The trail world tends to be a small one. BTW I’m totally jealous that you have a Jack the Dipper in Franklin! Those warm waffle cones….

@@UnfetteredFootsteps I'm in planning stages now ... if you have recommendations on how to break it up into section trips I'd love to know. I wasn't going to do the Franklin road walk section since I backpack with a dog. My typical trips are 2 night/3 day (20-30 mile weekend trips).
@UnfetteredFootsteps

@@roselee_explores I would look at the route on GAIA and start to break it down. If you don't have a map already, that is. You can load my GPX files into GAIA (find them at unfetteredfootsteps.com/trip-planners). Maybe consider hiking the AT to the top of Cheoah bald to start, then down Bartram back to the road (1 weekend). All depends on the mileage you can do. But if you look at the mileage in between roads, you can make a plan with a shuttle to pick you up. Two good options are Traveling Lite Shuttle and Resupply (look him up on Facebook - Zach G is his trail name. He's a great guy and services that area helping hikers), and Chica and Sunsets (they run a hostel in Franklin, so may be able to help when you get to the beginning of the road walk where you want to skip (nothing special about that road walk so you won't miss anything). Wayah Bald is another good access point as there are lots of people that go to see the viewpoint. You'll just need to figure out how far you want to walk each day and start mapping out those chunks, doing your best to align to road crossings or access points where someone can pick you up. Once you have that schedule you can contact one of the shuttles and go from there. Traveling Lite SHuttle and Resupply is your best bet - found out about Zach after this video was produced. But the Nantahala Outdoor Center is a good backup resource. Hope that helps.

@@UnfetteredFootsteps fantastic! I love using Traveling Lite ... Zach may have been the one filling in for Nate last year. To my knowledge Nate is actually owner/operator. He went out and did the CDT last year ... but Nate is back at shuttling this year. I'll keep Chica & Sunsets in mind as well. Initial plan was to get dropped at Stecoah Gap to start. I'll take a look at your gpx data and probably bookmark it as well. Thank you for all the information :)

I can't thank you enough of the gpx coordinates that I downloaded to use in Gaia. You were right, Gaia works better in airplane mode than Alltrails which lost connection daily. I used the dickens out of your waypoints. I learned a lot doing my first solo, multi-day hike on the Bartram trail. Mainly I made some mistakes about how to feed myself among other things and I really ran out of energy my fifth day. My shuttle driver was able save me but I plan to go back and finish. Thanks again.

Glad you enjoyed! Hmmm… it might error if you tried to upload the zip file vs unzipping first and uploading the gpx file. Could that be it? You’ll want to unzip, then upload GPX only. I am going to do a video at some point on using GAIA as I think it isn’t always the easiest app to get started with.
