Students in hand therapy FW would really benefit from your channel. Nice job!

I have almost no MCP flexion in my right thumb, as though the joint were stone. I have around 5 - 10 degrees of flexion that I can induce, either manually, or during composite thumb flexion where I make it only half way to the distal palmer crease (comparatively I have around 45 degrees of MCP flexion on my left thumb and can reach the distal palmer crease). I first noticed issues applying and maintaining thumb pressure while gripping computer mice, and now can't un-notice it. I fail foments sign tests for ulnar nerve obstructions, compensating with IP flexion to perform gripping tasks. If it were an ulnar nerve issue, would that effect my ability to bend the joint manually with my off hand (maybe the joint stiffening over time from lack of use?), or just my control over the muscles responsible for flexion, leaving the joint free to manipulate? I possibly remember MCP pain and stiffness during and after bike riding as a child, though I haven't thought much of that until now. I'm suspecting extrinsic MCP tightness, but have annoyingly also experienced symptoms of an ulnar nerve obstruction, such as, clawing of the resting hand, occasional dorsal numbness, and resting pinky CMC hyperextension, which may or may not be entirely unrelated to my thumb MCP flexion issues. I'm going to have to see a doctor, I know, I just can't help but want to work it all out for myself in the meantime 😅

Hi, i am unable to bend my thumb at the MP joint. Its by birth and both thumbs are affected. My father has the same issue. can u please let me know if this can be treated? what is this deformity called

If you have not been able to move that joint from birth then there isn’t much that can be done in regards to therapy. A surgeon may be able to help but that is potentially going through a lot of unnecessary pain/surgery/therapy especially if you have no issues with doing everything you need to be able to do!

This is useless knowledge. If I'm out of alignment or have short range of motion I already know without measurement. how you can fix it this the question

Tell that to the thousands of students that are tested on this or therapists that have to objectively obtain goniometric measurements for documentation! We have other treatment type videos in our library but as the title suggested this is strictly on how to measure ROM of the thumb!
