If you need to sight this GP (e.g. the sun) from your position in England, how can you do this if it is somewhere between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn?

You are using a sextant to measure the angles and make your calculations. Measuring elevation angles is essentially using a right triangle as cited. ......In simplified terms, when we take a sextant altitude of the sun we're creating a right angle triangle between it, the earth's surface at the GP, and ourselves. Grade school geometry tells us that the two angles in a right-angled triangle must equal 90°. ....." Yachtingworld

And "On the earth's surface all material objects are subject to the earth's gravitational attraction, which pulls them toward the earth's center." Gravity confirmed. "Earth's rotation and curvature are figured from range tables and their effects are cranked into the system as direct increments to sight angle and deflection. " And "The most pronounced single limiting factor in air searching is the radar's inability to follow the curvature of the earth" Curve and rotation confirmed.
