Turbulent weather patterns on may 12th marked the first chase day of the season. A warm, unstable, air mass surging in from the South combined with lots of moisture from left over storms primed the atmosphere for what would be a round of powerful pulse storms.
When a storm cell popped up on radar we set course to Bodegraven, a small town near the center of the Netherlands. When we gained a visual, the cell had already developed a nice structure and an Arcus cloud. After our intercept, a little east of Bodegraven, the storms activity diminished and we decided to try once more with a cell moving northeast near Nieuwegein, just south of the city of Utrecht. We had a clear view on the back of the storm, producing vigorous CG+ lightning and very loud thunder.
Our day ended after the Nieuwegein cell had moved east and died. New cells had popped up northeast, but we couldn't reach them in time - so we decided to call the chase.
