On Friday myself and Noel Keating from Noel Keating Photography went on the chase for thunderstorms and located are self in Mullaghmore as it looked like a good spot to capture anything over the day. once we arrived there was some cells trying to form but just couldn't produce and fizzle out. It was a different story of the coast of Mayo and Donegal were storms were moving up over Mayo and growing when moving northwards over the water and sparking of just a few Kilometers away. All the lightning was hiding behind the precipitation making it impossible to see. Myself and Noel were watching the radar were we could see lightning been picked up at one stage every 30 Seconds to a minute apart.
During the evening Martin McKenna of www.nightskyhun... John Fagan of Chasing The Elements By John Fagan and Paul Martin of www.tyroneskies... joined us at Mullaghmore were we watch a storm develop as it came over Benbulben Mountain and Classiebawn castle.
The storm did produce thunder and lightning but it was hard to pick up the lightning on camera as all the lightning was in-cloud with no CGs visible. Over head there was a area of rotation visible but this was very weak.
All in all the charts looked very good for a first proper chase of the of the season but did produce the goods we taught it would.
It was nice to catch up with the lads again and I am sure it will not be long before we get another good day out.
It this a good sign as we are not even in the summer months yet.
