The mid 2000s were some weird times for American automakers. The standard practice had become to crank out 2 or more versions of the same car with different badges from each brand the manufacturer owned. Very little in the way of creativity shone out…it was a sea of ho-hum vehicles that led right into the bailouts of 2008.
There were a few signs of life, however. Take this 2003 Ford Thunderbird. While still sharing a platform and other bits with other FoMoCo products, one look at this thing and you’d be transported back to the 1950s and poodle skirts.
In the same vein that Chrysler tried to rekindle some nostalgia for their old vehicles with the retro-inspired PT Cruiser, Ford attempted the same with the rebirth of the Thunderbird.
While the original T-Birds were two-door convertibles, things did not always stay that way for the beloved T-Bird. We’ve seen two doors and four. Sedans, coupes, and convertible tops. This version attempted to recapture the style of the first generation. Does it work for you? Let us know in the comments below.
