I personally use redwing leather shoe cream for my Thursdays. Of all the conditioners I used I recommend redwing shoe cream. If you use saddle soap you'll have to put some conditioner or cream. Saddle soap will remove most of the oils within the leather as well. Which is why it's important to use cream or Conditioner when the saddle soap is wiped off then dried.

Hi Seikomode! I really concur with ya on that recommendation. Redwing Conditioner is a great option for many leathers. Thanks for taking time to drop us a comment.

I have 2 captains. The Classic Black and the Arizona Adobe that I got in the last few weeks. I wanted a pair of black and brown dress boots. The AA’s is part of the R&R line and I haven’t cleaned them much outside of brushing them with a horsehair brush at the begging of my day and the end of the day. I do that to all the boots I wear. My black classics are means for more dressy occasions and my AA’s are a daily shit kicker boots. These will essentially last me a decade if not more so it’s well worth the $400. Don’t forget to buy a shoe tree to keep the boot looking brand new or close to brand new. I bought the Cobbler’s choice leather cleaning kit and I haven’t used anything other than the waterproofing spray on both boots and the leather conditioner on the Classic black ones. The conditioner is super nice and glossy right after you put them on. I would recommend putting a small amount on a microfiber cloth and then just apply it to your smooth leather boots at the end of every night to make sure they’re ready to go in the morning. Keep the same towel around because they little bit of conditioner will last you multiple uses. I haven’t used the leather cleaner on either one of my boots but I will when it gets dirty.

As far as I’ve encountered you really can’t get a mirror shine on chrome leather boots. The wax will literally slip right off of the leather if you even touch them. That’s what I’ve experienced. I have also heard that from The Elegant Oxford Channel from what I recall. Check his channel out and see. I unfortunately don’t have a link to that video. I watched it a few months back. But I’m sure if you look up oiled leather there you will find a maintenance video like we have here. Cheers

Man, I appreciate this video. But there's one tiny missing surface that you were doing overthere, I take my way finding those "interface" surface between the sole and the leather, the surface that you have to use the toothbrush to reach. Usually, that surface takes the most forces while movement and the more day we are using, the more scratches are made, so I take a deep care on that "interface" line, apply the Leather Care up to 3 layers, then use my Saphire Brown Red ( wax type ) to make it stronger. Hope this would help in your Care Process. Cheers!

Appreciate you watching! Short of going to a cobbler to get holes to run the laces through I'd try conditioning them and while still moist with conditioner leave overnight in with shoe trees and stuff the upper with newspaper holding the tongue in the correct position. See if that will then harden a bit and take the new shape. They may need rubbed smooth after conditioning to get the old crease out.

@GentlemansJourney

I'd say not recommended due to it changing color. However, for me I'd say do it. If you need further weather proofing then go for it For a $200 pair of boot it's not a problem, they wont last forever anyway. I've had a ton of boots over the years and even the one's I put the "forbidden" chemicals on have held up just fine. It broke down the leather but that was after some time. I find my self stuck between two worlds, WORK BOOTS and DRESS BOOTS.

@GentlemansJourney
3 жыл бұрын
My Thursday's feel just as thick as the Roughnecks. I think that is due to the Roughnecks being on the Heritage Line and not a true work line. The Iron Rangers are thicker I believe. I'm stoked you got some Captains and should be very happy!

Started to upgrade from sneakers to my first pair of Thursday boots (Matt black captains and tobacco rugged). Thank you for taking time to make this video. On Matt black do I use conditioner. Thoughts on Thursday brand leather cleaning bundles?
@GentlemansJourney
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and welcome to the Thursday family :) I still consider getting a set of Matt Black.. Those are sick. With the rugged leather you just want to clean it and brush it out with a good shoe brush. I think defaulting to the manufactures products is always a solid choice so the "Cobblers Choice" leather cleaner should be all you need if you have a good brush, or a combo kit. For a deeper clean Thursday Recommends taking it in to a cobbler or professional so that's what we did on this channel. I sat down with my cobbler friend and he talked about what products he would use on the Rugged and Regular Thursday Chrome Leather, here is that video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sKyqyXiim5mZZ6Q

I have a question @Gentleman's Journey, for tobacco color, we don't need any product to moisturize it?
@GentlemansJourney
2 жыл бұрын
This is clipped from their website. "Some of our leathers, including Terracotta and most of our "Rugged & Resilient" leathers (Arizona Adobe, Black Matte, Tobacco, Burnt Copper, and others), require special care. To clean these leathers, we recommend you use a Premium Shoe Brush to remove any dirt on the surface, then optionally spray the boot with Leather Cleaner and use a clean Microfiber Cloth to wipe them down. Because these leathers are so unique, we do not recommend applying any conditioning or protective products. If additional cleaning is required, we recommend visiting your local cobbler or shoe repair shop so they can handle this professionally." I have yet to get a great answer as to why this oil is packed with so much oil's and waxes from the factory that it never needs it again. However, In my cobbler video my buddy says that he would put conditioner on them. I've see other youtubers say they condition theirs. I'd go with some Saphir Greasy Leather Cream, Saphir renovator or medaille d'or leather cream. I have yet to condition mine and they do great with some Cobblers Choice Leather cleaner. Up to you mate, at this price point you really can't be too worried about "ruining" them but good stewardship is still key. Hopefully, more on this in the future.

Stopped watching at “first thing you do is drop your boots on a hard surface to loosen dirt and rocks”... I know that won’t damage the boots but you could buy a 99 cent stiff brush to brush the outsole. Rocks get logged into the lugs and dropping it like isn’t going to do anything about that.

He literally takes a brush to the boots immediately after knocking the boots on the table top. Not sure why using physical shock on the first step is so offensive to you, but, if it is, you could always skip that and go straight to the brush. Regardless of this video, I always bang my shoes and boots together a couple times to knock any loose dirt off of them. Why would I want that crap in my brush bristles?

Thanks for the great instructional video! It helps me know the boot cleaning process. I got my Thursday Captains in Tobacco Rugged & Resilient Leather also about a month ago. I’m torn on which cleaning product to buy though! I like the Otter Wax brand because of the natural ingredients. You said to use a Saddle soap for the tobacco leather and Otter Wax has that, but I saw on the “Trenton & Heath” channel he used suede shampoo to clean rugged resilient leather. Otter wax has a suede cleaner too. I just want to clean my boots and I would love them to have a nice oiled/moist look/texture after they dry. What do you recommend between? Thanks for your time and videos! :)

I still struggle not putting any type of conditioner on after cleaning the Rugged Tobacco boots. I haven't added anything yet because I want to do the experiment with them.
