Although the Nspire is more expensive, it's definitely worth it. Especially for students enrolled in IB, AP or other higher-level math classes like Algebra II or Pre-Calculus. Definitely a time-saver.

arcos, arcsin, and arctan are all on the ti-84-plus c when you use the '2nd' button. and converting from sin to csc and from cos to sec is really so simple that it's something students should be learning anyway, so the last point seems kind of moot.

If you're a sophomore or freshman, I would recommend the ti-nspire cx. It's way more easier to navigate and faster. You can also graph more, it has templates for equations just fill in the blanks(type coefficients/constants, etc) it has it for lines(y=mx+b, x=c, and ax+by=c), parabolas(y=a(x-h)^2+k,y=ax^2+bx+c,also for x=ay^2...), circles((x-h) ^2+(y-k)^2=r^2, ax^2+ay^2+bx+cy+d=0) eclipse((x-h) ^2/a^2+(y-k)^2/b^2=1), hyperbolas(east-west/south-north), and conics. It also has a notes application (save paper!) spreadsheets, data and statistics(pie/bar/dot charts, etc.) it also easier to learn because, technology evolves, young students will be more familiar with it. Don't listen to your teacher, most don't know anything about it, like mine. If you are taking pre/calculus, I would very recommend the ti-nspire cx CAS(computer algebra system) it has all the functionality of the cx, but it the cas is for the ability to do symbolic algebra. It will simplify expressions, solve multivariable equations/inequalities, factor polynomials, expand, zeros, complete the square, many polynomial tools, indefinite integrals, nth derivatives(maybe non-cas), and limits. It will simplify instead of saying "variable undefined" you can also change the settings for it give to give answers in irrational, exact form, instead of all those nasty decimals in approximate form. It also has a differential equation solver, or graphing. It has 3-d graphing(including parametric) pretty sure non-cas does not. Don't use it for basic classes like geometry. If you do, only for homework. I used it myself for geometry(I had to teach myself geometry, and only used it for learning, didn't cheat on tests). It can really help you in learning(I exceeded on an end of course test(wasn't allowed on test), without a someone teaching me). There's much more capabilities, like click and drag a graph, watching how the numbers and data change along with it, or drawing shapes on the graphing app. I want to make my own video, it will be my first one, check it out later. So, go buy it, boost your grades, have fun drawing /exploring /playing games on it, make all your friends/teachers jealous!(like I did) only use the cas vn for classes like calculus. if you(like me) have to take a class that has an end of course test(without graphing calculators allowed) make suuurrree you can do it without the nspire.

Cyber True, took me a while to choose the CE or the Cx CAS because programming is so much easier on the 84’s, but I eventually chose the TI-nspire cx CAS because it has 100 mb of ROM (CE has 3 mb) and has so many functions at least 20% of them you will never use, anyway I’m glad I got the nspire, already have a 84 Silver Edition anyways.

The only really annoying thing I find in the Ti-nspire is the fact that they ask whether you want to save every time you make a calculation, even on the scratchpad. How do you stop this?! Also, I was so use to having my scientific calculator, and I just don't like the whole colorful look on the Ti-nspire.. its so distracting and when I take a test its harder to make calculations quicker than on like my scientific calculator.... Will I get used to these problems or should I return it? :(

Very similar restrictions if both operating systems are up to date. In fact, TI has given teachers the ability to customize which features are restricted in test mode, and that check box list is pretty similar for both.

@811cloud
8 жыл бұрын
+Rous Gomez It would be idealistic to use a TI-nspire because of the efficiency it provides, if your class prefers to use this particular calculator, chances are things are going to move a lot faster in the class while you're stuck there trying to figure out how to do it. I was in a similar situation, upgrading what seemed to be so insignificant helped me waste less time on the calculator. This is particularly true for Algebra I and II where the use of formulas and graphing is often. In the long run, TI-nspire would be ideal.

I think it´s strange how TI released another 84. I haven´t used an 84 but the UI just looks very clumsy. I have the n spire (the one with gray scale screen) and the thing I like about it is how it doesn't get in the way. The UI is so simple to use.

It's not strange, really. The TI-84 has a massive community, and Texas Instruments released the C series to get more people into it. Also, regarding your classic Nspire, I'm happy for you. The CX (imo) is really just a watered-down, bloatwared piece of garbage.

@Techpoweredmath1

I'd choose a TI-84 Plus CE in that situation. Much better screen, still getting software updates from TI. The TI-Npsire with 84 keypad is running a very old version of the 84 operating system that can't be upgraded to the latest versions. TI has made some really nice updates to the 84 OS since those days. I'd either go all in on the 84 (meaning the CE) or all in the Nspire (meaning the CX). The 84 on the Nspire is kind of the worst of both worlds.

For weaker students? Dude, they should know most of the calculations without a calculator. Let alone knowing every single one of the steps inside out even if they wake you up from a nightmare and know why and how and where and when... Otherwise I would NEVER let them pass in engineering class or physics or any later classes. It is not learning. It is "getting by" and being useless... They fail people at age 15 if you can't handle calculus in Hungary. But even in the US, they need harsher education. Jobs that will actually get you money nowedays include hardcore science or fckn big luck. Otherwise, nice vid
@Techpoweredmath1

Steveelb1 WoT In an ideal world, what you're saying would be great. However, I taught a lot of classes for students that were never going to make it to a math class even close to calculus for a variety of reasons, including interest level, aptitude, or other personal circumstances. I also taught many special education students. I don't know how things are handled in math classes in Hungary, but in the U.S., it's the norm for the same teacher who teaches Advanced Placement Calculus to also teach remedial math classes. So when I say "weaker students", I truly saw a wide variety of students from the very best that went on to top engineering programs to the very weakest that did no additional schooling after high school.
