I had someone surprise me in a similar way recently, and as a result I missed on ALL of my tickets. It was brutal.

It is terrible to be on the other side of it but feels so good to deploy it

One tip I've noticed could help you is that if you only want one of the cards on offer, drawing off the top first increases your odds of drawing wilds and pairs. Getting into that habit can really make a difference over a full game.

I'm not sure about that maths, I think picking the card that's on offer first works out better. Eg. say on offer there are 2 wilds, 1 white, 1 pink, 1 red. You want reds and yellows. Pick the red from board first, then the new card that is revealed has a 2/9 chance of being a red or yellow. The revealed card is black: useless. You pick a card from the deck and it has a 3/9 chance of being red, yellow, or wild. Combine the 2/9 chance and the 3/9 chance and that's about a 48% chance of getting a card you want (1-(7/9)*(6/9)). Instead you pick a card from the deck first: you have a 3/9 chance of getting a red, yellow, or wild. That's only a 33% chance. There are of course nuances: are there 2 wilds on offer and you have a chance of resetting the cards, have you been counting colours and know there aren't many reds left in the deck, do you want wilds specifically, is it early game or late game, is random pairs in otherwise not valuable colours helpful, etc... If it's the above scenario but you only want 1 red and 1 yellow, the maths changes: Pick a red first and you have a 1/9 chance of revealing a yellow. You then have a 2/9 of randomly drawing a yellow or wild (31% of getting what you want). Pick from the deck first and you have a 3/9 chance of drawing a red, yellow, or wild. If you draw a yellow or wild, you then draw the red from table. If you drew a red, then you draw from deck again for a 2/9 chance to draw a yellow or wild. 25% total chance of getting what you want. TLDR: Always pick from table first before drawing randomly from the deck.

It’s something that is very tricky to balance but I’ll have to look for opportunities to deploy this strategy

I am going to have to read through this a couple of times to understand the math haha

@@MrOobling One important point you miss is the fact that if you draw off the top first, you might get a wild PLUS the card you want from the board. So, if there's a wild on the top of the hidden cards, and you draw off the board first, then the wild fills the gap on the board and you can't take it. So the maths needs a big rethink!
