So to dye things like polyester I know you have to use a special dye that works only with hot water. Would the hot water irrigation method work for this
@AGDinCA

Make a video using my oven technique! 200°F, put in a deep dish. Cover in ice. If you use a lot of powder, expect to add more ice at some point. Let ice melt, let set in muck for however long you want, probably 10-30 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool while still remaining in muck. Then rinse as normal. Total oven time depends on how many times you have to add ice. So, likely 1-2 hours. 👍

When doing a HWI, do you need to account for dye powders that call for more dye per cup? Like Raven black calls for 4 tbsp per cup but lemon yellow calls for 1 tbsp per cup. Hope this question makes sense.
@BelladonnaDyesCo
3 жыл бұрын
I understand what you’re asking. The recipe for liquid dye is 1c water to 2tsp dye, *4tsp dye, **8tsp dye. So, that being said you would use 4 tsp Raven in 1/4c soda ash if you’re using this recipe that I used for this tutorial. I hope this answer makes sense. 😉❤️🌈

I use mason jars, the little jelly ones work well. I use a confectionary spoon to place the dye, when it's mixed with soda ash it flows VERY well and you can also use the little vibrating battery powered confectionary applicator too but the regular spoons work well. I've never tried using something with a nozzle, interesting idea! For the hot water I use a sous vide wand to heat water in a pitcher to an exact temp - works well :) One nice thing is the dye lasts for ages in jars like this, it's a neat way to apply and can be used with ice just fine too...
@BelladonnaDyesCo

I have those spoons, I have a sugar writer, but I find this method to be extremely simple and a lot quicker. If I did more of these I’ll consider getting one of those water heater wand thingies because boiling the water is a pain. It’s either way to hot or not hot enough… mason jars work too. I have a ton of empty dye jars I can use too. ❤️🌈

@@BelladonnaDyesCo this method looks terrific for laying down dye, much easier honestly! The Sous vide wand is great for cooking, I wouldn’t buy one just for tie dye but it gets the temp exactly where you want and holds it there for as long as needed 🤓

Thanks Steph, I’m putting a kit together today in between ties and this is a perfect tutorial, thanks again. Question, have you tried using the bottles when applying dye for ice dye? Seems to be a great way for smaller sections of the tie to place the dye. ✌🏻❤️

Great idea to mix the color with the Sodaash. I haven't dared to do it yet. Also, I think that placing the color pure with a spoon is not as precise as your method. Your method also needs less color than with a spoon. Great, I'll try it right away on my next project. Thanks again for sharing this tip

I really love this dye application. But questioning the dyes that are a bit more sticky as you have said in past videos, do you find it that the mixing with the soda ash helps break up that stickiness of the dye and it mixes togetherJust as well?

I have a question- so this dye that you’re making up, is it then the powder that you squirt onto the tied up shirt? I never saw 1/4 cup of soda ash in the dye, is this necessary, especially if you’re sprinkling it over the powder dye.

Wow, look at the ash that woman has got. ; ) She surely has the lefty writing pen clench. Clipping corners, I would have done that right off the bat yellow, orange, wipe then blues to purple unless the tsp got caked somehow.

Yeah, I hold my pen weird. My teachers tried to turn me into a right handed kid… it didn’t work. I don’t even remember what I started with… what was it? Ultra Violet? Yeah it would have better to end with it, but that was my goal of this tutorial. I don’t notice what I’m doing until the editing process and I just have to go with it. 🤪❤️🌈

@@BelladonnaDyesCo I hear that often from fellow lefties of others trying to make them righties and that is just so wrong. The only things, on the left handed front I loathed in school where "left handed scissors" which where just RH scissors that where just riveted too tight with plastic dip "padding" and the ink and pencil all over the edge of my hand while writing. I will say you do roll with the punches, so to speak.

@@ScooterFXRS Did I realize you’re also left handed? I’ve met so many new friends I can’t keep everyone straight. I twist my paper so I don’t get the mark on my hand. From my experience making things in a "squirt/nozzel" type bottle (like hair dye or my pancake mixer bottle) to keep from getting a condensed amount of product stuck in the nozzle part that isn't fully mixed with the other ingredients, before giving it a good up and down shake, I pick it up and give it a good swirl around the bottom. I watch your videos every day and my only critique is you are too hard on yourself. Other than that, great content. Thanks for sharing.
