That’s the most perfect fucking tig root I’ve ever seen my guy! Currently practicing for my pipe cert in May and I’m watching a lot of your videos pretty much everyday! Quick question. So, I’ve been freehanding all my passes but I’d like to have a more consistent pattern so I’m learning to walk the cup. If you’re walking the cup on a cap, do you tend to hold the torch upside-down or by its handle? Thanks again for the sick tutorial!

When your purging stainless people say to vent the end for the final tie in what if you can’t vent the end of the pipe for final tie in on root
@sugerbear6544
7 ай бұрын
Should always vent, argons heavier than air. On spools vent anywhere possible on fittings or turn down flowrate for tie in, never easy for site work.
@Jack-tp5ji

This is where you’ll see ‘Needle Purging’ on the final weld of a piping system. This is done with ice dams either side of the joint and the weld area is back purged with a hypodermic needle. Just before you close the weld, the needle is pulled out and the root is quickly sealed. It will still likely leave a pin-prick sized area of oxidation in the root but this may be acceptable depending on acceptance criteria
