The early models of the Tiger II were fitted with a turret with a rounded front, creating a potential shot trap -where an incoming round would ricochet down, penetrating the roof armour. The simulation shows what would happen if a 76mm AP round from an up-gunned Sherman was fired at this shot trap.
The M79 AP round cannot perforate the Tiger II frontally, unless impacting the turret at a near-perpendicular angle. This is extremely unlikely due to the sharp rounding of the turret, but the shot trap may be a larger vulnerability. It should be noted that early Panthers suffered from this issue, where weak rounds that couldn't perforate the armour directly, could do so when hitting the shot trap: • PANTHER SHOT TRAP SIMU...

To note: I found some conflicting info on if the turret front is rolled or cast steel, but it wouldn't really make a difference in this case.
