@@YellowCab524 about a 6 handicap after I play a few times. (So like 4 over par because courses I play are usually like a rating 2 less than whatever par is). On average I probably play less than 100 holes per year. And I'm usually just a 9 hole golfer but when I play 18 holes I'm usually about the same on the back 9. I need to get out and play more. I've always been good with my driver. Pretty confident I can hit it 300 yards and put it in the fairway. Then my definite strong point is my short irons. If I'm 150 in I feel confident I can hit it within 20 feet. It's always been putting that's my weakness. If I'm putting well I can potentially shoot around even par, maybe even get the 1 under, but I feel like I miss way too many 6 footers and I feel like I never make anything beyond 15 feet out. And feel like I should be wary to make a run at it and I should try to secure a par...maybe creep it in. Sometimes when I "go for" a 15 footer I'll end up hitting it 3-4 feet by.. and then you're faced with the "am I seriously going to potentially three putt from 15 feet? Which isn't a good mindset. And a 3-4 footer is no gimme for me. I REALLY want to put it within 2 and halfish feet. Haha. I'm also terrible at reading greens. That's the other reason I'm wary to be aggressive with 15 footers is because I usually misread it so I know it's not going to have a chance anyway. And I feel like you've got to be able to roll in 15 footers here and there and make the 8 footers at least half the time to shoot under par. But yeah I suck at reading greens and I could really benefit from a caddy reading putts for me. I could probably consistently benefit like 2 strokes per round. But obviously getting a caddy isn't practical, haha. What about you?
@azapro911

Clinic, quite possibly the greatest ever performance in a major tournament. It's not just the 15 shot margin or the startling ability to do that in one of golf's big four events, but that it was done on a USGA tricked-up Pebble Beach. The 2000 U.S. Open was a brutal test, nobody else sniffed finishing at level par let alone under it. And Tiger made it look as though he was playing in the AT&T Pro-Am!!! If you ever want to see golf played at its absolute definitive pinnacle, watch Tiger Woods from May 2000 to May 2001.

Tiger Woods shot an average of 67.79 per round in 2000. He averaged 4 under par on the hardest courses in America. He averaged 16 under par for every 4 day tournament he played in. HIS AVERAGE IS BETTER THAN MOST PLAYERS' AMAZING. Simply astounding. Oh, and he also did it in 2007.

Sam Snead was an athlete. Sam Could give Tiger a run for his money with the equipment Tiger played with. Funny thing is Sam played with really shitty equipment, even for those days. He had the worst balls, worst clubs of the day and won over 80 events, his last coming in his 50's. He continued winning in his 60's on the senior tour, so he was obviously one hell of a player. He won so much it wasn't even funny. And it wasn't like the competition was any different, it wasn't any more difficult to beat Ben Hogan or Byron Nelson in their prime than it would be for Tiger to beat Fred Couples or Vijay Singh. It was always the best in the world on the PGA Tour, yes Tiger Woods did some nutty things with a golf ball, and could win by massive margins, but if Sam Snead were to play with the equipment Tiger had in 2000, and he was in his prime, Tiger would have lost more than he won. We have to remember also that Tiger was not a good ball striker. This week it was great, but that's only one tournament. The rest of the year he struggled to keep it in play. What we always see on the highlight reel isn't hit drives, or his fairways iron shots, but his recoveries that made him famous, and his short game.

Tiger is unquestionably the greatest Golfer in history. He played in an era of greater competition then Jack and I doubt his records will ever be matched in Wins, and most important winning percentage. It is unthinkable of a golfer today winning nearly 1 of 4 tournaments. Further, Tiger rarely entered second tier Tour Events, e.g. Hartford,The John Deere type filler tournaments that have already helped Jordan Speiths # of wins.
@gwilson314
6 жыл бұрын
Particularly early on, Woods won his fair share of second-tier events, namely in Vegas and at Disney. Of course, winning a second-tier PGA Tour event is still very difficult and shouldn't really be discounted. But if we are doing that, then it has to be noted that Nicklaus rarely played these easier events. Nicklaus's win total would be far higher if he had played second-tier events, and would likely have been unmatched. If we are counting success in majors as the central barometer, it isn't close. Nicklaus is far above Woods. Not only is his total of 18 wins unmatched; the number of seconds, thirds, and Top-10's prove how unrivaled the Golden Bear is. Nicklaus's 73 Top-10's (Woods has 40) in majors is astounding. It speaks to consistency and sustained greatness. To pour more cold water on this, it is well-known that Woods in 2000 was playing the newly-developed wound golf ball before his competitors started using it. This technological advantage obscured Woods's talent at the time; he was the best of his era but not by as much as you'd think. Once age started to catch up, he became fairly pedestrian at majors. His closest contemporary rival, Phil Mickelson, has won 5 majors since turning 33. Woods has won 0 majors after his 33rd birthday. He will be 43 the next time he tees it up at a major. People tend to ignore these facts. Now there is no reason to deny his immense talent and achievements. He was the best of his era; just as Jones, Hogan, and Nicklaus were in theirs. But the all time greatest? Nah. Objectively, he is probably something like 4th or 5th.

eventually... but initially it wasn't his swing mechanics; his training regiment changed (became heavier/more intense) and lacked recovery in his soft tissues; resulting in not being able to use it anymore (supporting tendons/ligments around his joints lacking) and therefore changing. If Tiger's intent was to just keep his stature then he may of just won a few more majors... His training goals changed and am sure he somewhat regrets this decision
@drlee2

Whatever Tiger did to change his swing around the late 2002 timeframe, I noticed that after that his game seemed a bit more conservative. From '99-'02 (8 major victories), when Tiger won, he was annihilating golf courses, but when he lost he was never really in it. But after the swing change, from '05-'09, he was in virtually every major during that time, even when he lost (won 6, second-place 5 other times, top-five about 2 other times) but he was no longer running away with any of them. I wonder if he doesn't change his swing after 2002, does he not have that 2-1/2 year gap from mid-02 through 04 of not winning. He may have won at least 4 or 5 during that stretch. But maybe flames out even earlier than he did, but he'd still have around the same number of majors he has now.

think about that address in context. 102 yards out. clearly opens the face up and absolutely pures that shot. he's merely having fun at that point.

Ah, the year 2000 - everything was perfect. Economy, golf, music, socializing...even the media was not a toxic mess like today.

Wonder how Speiths -19 compares with Woods -12 and a 15-stroke victory? Was the course that much more difficult in 2000? Looked like Speith couldn't make a mistake if he tried in 2017 Pebble and if a few more putts would have been to the hole he could've posted something real special. Equipment better/ball?

Spieth might have broken par but would have been lapped by Woods' performance here.

Tiger was the only player under par. And he was -12. This was the best performance in a major of all time and probably won’t ever be matched.

Certainly, however Henrik Stenson's -20 at the 2016 British was nearly as good. Stenson finished 24.46 strokes above average that week (Woods was actually lower at the 2000 US Open, 24.08 strokes above average). Stenson's dominance was obscured because the second place finisher that week (some guy named Phil Mickelson) happened to be almost as outstanding.

I miss Johnny Miller and I can't wait for Maltbie to go away. He says everything in a upward scaling crescendo for no reason. Not a voice for TV or radio. Maybe the Monday night trivia guy at the local bar

1.55 if you leave your hands higher on plane you follow centrifugal force. That was a very high pitched swoosh must have been at least 140mph.

Maybe 125, which is still incredibly fast, especially by 2000 standards. The only guys getting near 140+ are the LDA guys with their 50 inch shafts and giant muscular frames.

Tiger's speed at 2007 was 124 mph; which suggests that his 2000 speed is around 128 mph.

Greatest Week Of All Time Tiger Won By 15 On A Course That Was Impossible To Play On Pebble In The Winter Is Easier Bc of Rain that slows down the greens The Wind isn’t powerful the grass isn’t high in June The Wind Is Tuff To Play In The Grass Is 3 inches high and rain is non existent in the summer so the greens are lighting Fast And he beat everyone in the field by a lot not the lowest score at a major but the most impressive this ranks High And the reason he’s the goat
