I think it's the same case here: a couple of these kids, despite being vapid, uninteresting morons (basically just teenagers), they happen to have an uncanny talent for being famous in one very specific ecosystem. They're a rare breed, a sort of savant syndrome but not for something we normally think of like music or physics.

6:30 is soooo bad, as an untrained assistant, she is not legally allowed to treat him in any way, and really shouldn't even give medical advice if she/the hospital doesn't want to get sued. Also she starts bandaging the wound without even washing or cleaning it. All around the whole scene shows medical incompetency on the part of the writers Edit: 11:00 is even worse, they ONCE AGAIN ask an untrained assistant to help with treatment (lawsuit in progress), she isn't wearing PPE. HUGE NO-NO that could cause a deadly infection. They aren't nurses, they can help patients with nonmedical stuff but they aren't in any formal program so actually assisting in healthcare is SO ILLEGAL.

as someone who is very interested in medicine and wants to go into the medical field, here are all the medical inaccuracies in this show that made me want to cry (edit: will continue to add to the list as i think of more medical atrocities this show commits): - why is she wrapping a bleeding, gaping wound with non-sterile ace bandages and using no disinfectant while also not wearing gloves. my man holden gonna get an infection and she just put herself at risk for blood-born pathogens - holden is a minor who was just in a serious accident and is bleeding profusely. no way the nurses/doctors are just gonna leave him sitting there. even though he hasn't lost consciousness so he must not have hit a major artery (and to the show's credit, this is true), he's still actively losing a lot of blood, he's still at risk for hypovolemic shock. that laceration is way too big and bloody for it to be a superficial cut that can clot on its own in time to stop the bleeding before he loses too much, he needs a lot more than a loose wrap around his arm. especially since he's a minor, immediate medical attention is much more important for him, because his body has not finished developing and is at higher risk for shock. - having kit in the ER, TREATING PATIENTS, is a *huge* liability for the hospital. having a person without a medical license of any kind providing medical care to a person in a hospital setting is the quickest way for that hospital to get sued. like jesus fucking christ doctors have lost their licenses over allowing unlicensed ppl to perform medical procedures. kit simply being in the ER opens up the hospital to a plethora of lawsuits, let alone this whole stupid program where they have unlicensed, untrained teenagers treating patients like they're residents. - wear your hairnets properly. they're there for a reason - blood pressure doesn't really have a lot to do with how visible your veins are. high blood pressure can lead to varicose veins, which is when the vein becomes enlarged and twisted, but low blood pressure doesn't mean your veins become impossible to find - he used a 24 gauge needle to place an IV, which is way too small, you need an 18 gg needle to do that - why is only placing an IV and doing nothing else returning that absolutely terrifyingly slow heart rate back to a normal rhythm? and what is with that heart monitor, why are there 8 lines??? - yeah, the treatment for third degree burns is not placing an IV and doing rescue breaths. a third degree burn is when the upper layers of skin are burned through and the underlying fatty tissue, blood vessels, and nerve endings are damages. third degree burns are no joke, especially on a minor. while an IV will most likely be needed (for both antibiotics and electrolytes), the first and foremost thing you would have to do is cleaning and debriding (removal of dead skin and tissue) the area ASAP! this is super important in preventing infections. after that once the patient has been stabilized, they'll probably need a skin graft (depending on severity) and maybe reconstructive surgery, once again depending on the severity of the burn. but yeah, the sole placement of an IV + a couple rescue breaths will do basically nothing - that IV scene was a goddamn mess. one, dr henry NEEDS to be wearing gloves, and he isn't (to reduce chances of infection around the insertion site as well as to protect the healthcare provider). two, once again to reduce chances of infection around insertion site, the site and the area around it needs to be cleaned with alcohol for about 30 secs before the IV is placed, and that does not happen at all here. Three, there needs to be a tourniquet on the arm *above* the insertion site; kit squeezing the vein *below* the insertion site does literally nothing. four, DO NOT place your thumb directly above the injection site! not only does this increase the risk of accidentally sticking yourself, but it also makes it very difficult to place the IV. what you want to do is with your non dominant hand, stretch the skin and stabilize the vein, think of like a reverse pinch around the injection site. once you're ready to separate the catheter from the needle, THEN you can place pressure above the insertion site, but you don't have that placement as you're actively sticking. six, holy crap i just realized this, he doesn't even have an IV, he's literally just injecting her with something from a syringe but he's talking like he's placing an IV??? what the hell im so confused???? seven, if he were inserting an IV, it would need to be taped down/stabilized so it doesn't flop all over the place - while the giving food to all the kids in the wing seems nice, in general not a good idea. some kids could be on an NPO diet or something where they should not be eating solid foods, should be avoiding certain types of foods, etc. basically you need to read the patient's chart and then get them the proper kind food they need according to their doctors and diet plan - they're teen volunteers who haven't even finished high school, let alone gone through medical school. they can't have any patients, especially ones that are in critical condition that's all, enjoy my suffering :)
