I’m learning French and I can speak enough to get by and I went to Cancun in Mexico in 2019, while I was there a met a French girl my age so naturally we were speaking French. This girl leaves to grab lunch and an American woman overheard us talking, so she says “oh I love Italian.” So I explained to her in English that we were speaking French, not Italian. And she’s like “wow, you can speak Italian and French? My family is from France.” And I was like “no, Miss, we were speaking French. Just now. FRENCH.” And I thought she got it and we were done and this random lady would stop speaking to me but then she goes, “well your English is really good for a French person.” So I say, “actually, Miss, English is my first language.” And she got so confused so I said “I’m from England. Not France.” And then she asked me why I speak French “because England isn’t close to France,” and when I told her that it is literally a 3 hour boat journey or a half hour train from where I live she was like “??? but the United Kingdom isn’t in Europe anymore.” This bitch deadass thought that when the UK left the European Union... we moved our entire country away from the fucking continent. A grown woman. Edit: what the hell!? I just randomly got a reply for this and seen that it’s at 460 likes? Wow thanks! Also on that same holiday, I overheard an American man at the airport saying that he “hoped no Mexicans had snuck into his luggage to get into the States.” Not as stupid but still funny as hell

Average American is indeed number one in making dumbest comments but hey, I find them also like a child, soooo naive. I was working there in 2000s right before 9/11, there was the Iraq invasion etc, and literally ALL of them were saying things like “we are the SUPER Nation” when we were talking politics. This is the craziest sentence for me. And every time I asked / nicely challenged them (to think…) what made them the SUPER Nation, who decides on that, why are they invading so many countries intruding in internal politics etc, they couldnot even comprehend the questions…. And many used to ask me (genuinely): “why do they hate us when we do all this good as the Super Nation?” And you know what, I truly saw their confusion. Then it get much better for me. They were all…. almost brainwashed their entire life, zero legid info about how rest of the world politics history work….so I considered them as children and tried to educate educate educate in every conversation…..Individually they are really nice, upbeat people but they really lack self awareness and are self-centered as a Nation.

OK so I'm from Greece right, and we where talking about how we can get an English degree here cause, well, it's a foreign language. And they were barely hanging on to the idea that we start learning a second language at like, pre school as a mandatory thing, and then we can follow that with degrees. And then I made the mistake of talking to them about the different degrees of English that are there. And when I say they were soo dumbfounded, cannot even begin to describe their reaction. They simply couldn't wrap their head around that we have different degrees for UK English and US English. And the fact that UK English is considered a bit higher than us made them so angry. Like bitch... What. They didn't even know what ecce and toeic were. And then they decided to ask me about Greek, like the language itself. At first they wanted to hear how the alphabet sounded, weird, but like OK whatever. So I asked, OK, do you want me to write it down as well, so you could see the different letters as well? And then the second black hole brain moves started appearing. Like, gurl, these mfs thoughts that Greek had the same letters as English just based on the fact that the capital letter A and B are the same. And it got even worse when they found out that we don't even have the same amounts of letters either. Like what would they have done if I was speaking mandarin? And the thing is that you can't put all the blame on them as individuals , but their education system is sooo bad. Cause listen, I'm not saying that in school I became a geography expert, but literally the basics. A few more years like that, and they will think that in Athens we live inside the Parthenon and spoon the unexciting Athena statue. Like grow up and get your heads out of your ass and realize that there are over 200 countries out there, and you are just one of them. The world does not revolve around the US.

I was talking to an American I know (nice guy really, but sometimes..) and we were talking about Dutch cheese. Most English talking people pronounce Gouda as Koodah or something. So I told him that Gouda is a town and it's actually not far from where I grew up and I had a aunt and uncle living there and it's pronounced Ggggggowdaa (the g as the scraping gutteral sound) and he said 'uhm huh? Are you SURE???' I just looked at him and said 'well DUH!'
