I have to say I wasn’t Catholic this past Lent, but I did give up social media for Lent and I have been a ton happier since because now if I’m on my phone most of the day now to listen to podcasts like yours, or Bishop Barron, Jordan Peterson, etc. or reading a book on kindle/audible, etc. I actually found out mid this year that I am Catholic in my heart and am in the process of getting baptized and getting myself together. And it all started with giving up what wasn’t good for me and seeking out what is good. Praise be to GOD for helping me get on the right road, and I pray others get there as well. Thank you both for doing such good work. 🙏🏽

I gave up meat and all social media that wasn't constructive (no Facebook, Instagram etc) and only used KZitem for videos like this and some documentaries about history and recipes. To add to the tik-tok rant. There was a test done on the app where someone set up an a account and set the age to 13, and almost immediately they were being recommended highly sexualized content, drugs, and other explicit media. I believe they tested this about ten times. The app is inherently going to show you sinful things, because the people who made the app know that if they can hook you on these gross things, you'll scroll for longer and go down deeper rabbit holes

Dating Advice: brothers, it’s extremely easy to talk to women when you don’t entertain romantic interest her. Get to know her before even considering romantic possibilities. When you take this approach, you end up with a bunch of friends and a great reputation, and you don’t waste time pursuing relationships that won’t get past the get-to-know-you phase anyway.

My advice to my brothers. Abandon women, for now. Focus on virtue and personal achievement. Involve yourself in charitable organizations, join Knights of Columbus, and go to the gym. Read in free time. Virtue and Skill and Love. For a long time I had sought to date many woman, but in typical fashion (that I don't doubt you are accustomed) they didn't return any love, kindness or affection. They refused to say 'no' and wasted my time and my happiness. Now that my fiancée and I are going to be married. Know that you're going to have to embrace the suck. Forgive the women because they don't have to stare in the same abyss as you, they have their own. When you take the weight off of the woman to provide happiness and you focus on your virtue and Christ you will be freed from every need to be validated by her in every moment of despair. You can look yourself in the mirror and say, I am myself and I will get better tomorrow. I only found my soon to be wife, because I had to let go of the pressure. Ease it off. Grow yourself. You can do this.

47:08 oof, she just described me perfectly. I fell out of Christianity at around 18 and spent my entire 20s being a complete hedonist and degenerate. I'm 35 now and it was only in April that I started making my way back. My life has steadily been improving these past few months, but looking back at everything, I basically wasted 15 years of my life. Feelsbadman. Oh and for those unaware, there are reasons beyond mental health why you shouldn't have Tiktok. It's literally spyware, it keylogs your entire phone (meaning that everything you type, in _any_ app, will be recorded). So that's a huge security concern in and of itself. Beyond that, Tiktok's American branch has repeatedly stated that all the data they have isn't shared with China, but in a leaked audio recording from a meeting at ByteDance (their parent company) they directly talk about how they have access to everything. There's a reason why India flat out banned the app.

Yeah, the feeling of wasting your life. I converted at the age of 29-30, being in a really dark place before it. No job, no education, no perspectives. My life also has had improved, but depression and hopelessness caught to me in last two months. Just pure despair. It broke my relationship with God - and there's also this thing of me going back to the Catholic Church. It's hard in general, but after getting medical help and trusting my life/future to hands of Our Lady... pure leap of faith, I had nothing to lose... I finally see some hope. I'm trusting Her, that She'll bring me back to Her Son, one way or another. I'm once again hoping of good things God surely will bring, hard things too, but I'm getting used to it and grateful to be honest. Not giving up just yet.

On the topic of men and asking women out, I think in a way it circles back to social media and isolation. As society has become more dependent on technology, we’ve all cultivated our own little coping bubbles where we can escape in our favorite KZitem videos, meme pages and subreddits. So rather than deal with the negative emotions and insecurity of asking a woman out and putting ourselves out there, we run to our coping bubble for more hits of dopamine. I recognize this is something in myself that I’ve been doing and I’m trying to change it but it’s become very engrained lol. I also think the increased awareness on what women consider to be creepy and men maybe overplaying it in their mind is a factor as the last thing we want to do is be creepy so we just won’t say anything at all. Definitely a multi-faceted issue.

I read St John Chrysostom's commentary on Ephesians 5 and I find the best advice. I'm so glad you mentioned it Matt! He even says, "if your wife is old and fat, you still love her!... Some of the happiest men are married to old, fat women!... And some of the most miserable men are married to young, pretty things!" On the flip side he says wives must obey their husbands no no matter what (he emphasizes it's more respect than obedience). He even says, "even if your husband is indolent and lazy, you still have to respect him and obey him! His rationale for both attitudes is the example of Christ. If your wife is a disrespectful nag and you are a saint, she is still closer to you in virtue, than we are to Christ - the gap between His Perfection and our is infinite. And yet He loved us to the point of death. Likewise, if your husband is a self-absorbed lazy bum and you are a saint, he is still closer to you in virtue than Christ was to His Mother and St Joseph, and yet He respected and obeyed them. We have no excuse!

I have seen the really dark side of Social Media. There was a certain situation that happened on TikTok and on Twitter which caused me into deep despair and almost despondent. It was plaguing my mind constantly until I gave into the sin. At that time I was constantly praying on my knees drenched in tears and in sorrow begging for mercy and forgiveness. This is what led me to my First Sacrament of Confession (only been baptized Catholic as an infant) because I needed forgiveness. The imagery resurfaces every now and then so I do a Hail Mary, a personal prayer for strength and for the family that was affected.

I hope people don't think that the way she speaks is a representation of all early 20 somethings of today. That is the result of too much social media. Not all young people of today are on social media and if you are made to feel like a social leper if you do not have it, find new friends. Your friends are probably really vapid. Do things as friends, go to the park, hike, walk around your town and climb trees. Encourage your friends to do this, they'll love you for it. There is a huge demographic of us who had social media in middle school/high school and then got sick of it and wanted to have nothing to do with it - I count myself in these numbers. Back to traditionalism and doing things manually since 2017.

You say that, sure. Have you ever experienced every man you speak to at church start interviewing you to see if you would make an obedient housewife? Have you ever heard that you are unattractive cause you have a stable job?Have you ever been looked up and down by your brothers in faith so they can decide if you are even worth talking to? Have you been ever made 'a target they could hunt down'? I know how it sounds. But all of that happened to me. Many times. All my girl friends have the same experience. And we all felt so alone in it before we talked to each other. You feel so lonely and hurt by that happening to you all the time. You feel like a worthless prey. You start loosing faith. And it's not talked about enough. Men truly have a lot to think through. I understand it is uncomfortable to hear, since they have no realization of how creepy they are. But it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be spoken. I hope Amber's story helps at least one Catholic man change how he thinks of women.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think women like Mrs Fradd can be so genuine and loving and just really kind and humble with other women when they have confidence in their husband.

She could just be a genuine and kind woman by nature who is married to a man that doesn't create stress or suspicion re: other women.

I actually agree with that. I personally have gained so much confidence in myself since getting married (it's been 2 years now) and I think a lot of it has to do with knowing that I have someone in my corner. Some women are just super confident without that, but I was never a very confident person on my own. Maybe it's also to do with the fact that you gain a lot of confidence when you're in the place you're supposed to be. Like if God called you to marriage, then you get married, you receive that grace and confidence of knowing you're on the right track.

I’d love to see more kneelers at the communion line to give people the easier opinion to receive in that manner. I know it’s happening in some places.

I'd love a kneeler option (we even HAVE a rail but it's not used) bc I have trouble kneeling in dresses and skirts without the support of a rail.

Totally going to be checking out her videos. I have an 11-year-old girl who likes to watch KZitem crap and I like to point her to something not terrible and it looks like religious hippie. It's a good way to channel her KZitem addiction

Re: Matt's last comment about consecrated hands versus tongue: the traditional Roman rite of baptism includes a consecration of the tongue in preparation for reception of Holy Communion. I don't know if it's also the case in Eastern Catholic rites, but I wouldn't be surprised, especially since they Communicate the infant immediately after baptism.

Regarding negative criticism, Jordan Peterson has said that we tend to focus on negative inputs more because “you can only be so happy, but, you can also be dead”, so we dwell on negative forces more than the positive, to insure our own wellbeing. This was many years ago, so I wonder what he’d say now after his spiritual rebirth.

Hm. She says, "Mildred's the name you graduate to when you turn fifty." She'll find fifty comes around faster than she expects, and also that it feels younger than she imagines it to be now!

In reference to watching the 3 hr interviews vs listening, I’m a stay at home mom so I will put the KZitem interview on the tv while I’m cleaning, cooking, etc. I prefer to watch, as in glance over, to see the hand gestures and facial expressions. I listen almost daily to Pints with Aquinas and Among the Lilies.

1:40:30 Dating Advice: From a woman's point of view, sure. There will always be another man. From a man's, well he believes he's Luke Skywalker making that desperate attack looking for a hidden weakness on the Death Star. He's lucky to even get one shot. You can't blame him for being a bit keyed up.

The reason I love your long discussions is because I can stop scrolling, learn about a faith I’m not too familiar about, and get quality and true content. Watching your video with Michael Knowles has made me interested in Catholicism. I am becoming a huge fan!!

There is some precedent for having the Tabernacle in a cathedral in a side chapel but not like this. If you ever make it to St. Louis, you should check out the Blessed sacrament chapel
