I feel like laundry stripping would work better if washing machines had a good soaking feature.

Well, my washing machine has been broken for about six years, so I have a lot of experience with hand washing. I can say that the most efficient way to hand wash is to use a normal amount of detergent, and soak it for a full 24 hours. It takes that long for the detergent to work fully, plus, then break down. If you don't do a long soak like that, then the detergent won't break down, and will still be sudsey, forever, and you will never be able to rinse it out except with a river of water. So ...... with all of the stripping and even just the normal amounts of detergent ..... I strongly, strongly suspect that there's a LOT of product left on the clothes. And when that product is left on the clothes .............. it ATTRACTS dirt. So, to get clothes TRULY clean, a long soak is needed, plus a good rinse. When the water rinses clean, your clothes are clean. That said, it's a challenge!!! First, you can never check the rinse water of the washing machine to see if everything's rinsing clear. For another, when everything sloshes around in the washing machine, the dirt literally gets distributed on all of your clothes. Which is another benefit of the long soak, because the dirt sinks to the bottom, and that's good. Spin it out of the machine to get rid of it. So, with a washing machine, I recommend soaking overnight, and then removing the clothes from the machine to put them in the sink to finish. First, rinse under the tap and open drain till no soap when squished. It's a chore, but it's the only way. Then, do the old fashioned technique where you lift the clothes up into the air (by the collar of the shirts or the waistline of the pants), out of the sink filled with water, and allow the water and dirt to drain DOWNWARD, off of the clothes. The dirt should come out in 2-3 such "lifts," and then the clothes are clean-clean. You will know because the water is clean. But, if a person does this for the first time ...... the clothes will take ten+ lifts because they are literally that dirty from the washing machine only methode. So, honestly, that's why the clothes are so dirty as shown by the stripping. It's literally the washing machine not soaking the clothes long enough, then leaving detergent in the clothes, then not rinsing well enough. Three major problems in three main functions of washing machines!! Just saying!!! It's time consuming to get clothes clean, but there is no way around it if a person wants their clothes to be clean!

I always run an extra rinse on the washing machine. I have a washing machine set up my rv where I CAN see the rinse water drain in the sink, and the first 2 rinses are dark. The last comes out pretty clear. Sometimes I'll run it again if I have the time. I absolutely never only run the rinse once at home or in the rv

@@rhodad1673 I totally understand! Most people cannot see the rinse water and so they don't know if their clothes are really clean, but if you can see the rinse water, then you know the clothes probably need more than one rinse!!!

You're supposed to start with clean clothes. Everyone's doing it different. some people soak for 4 hrs Some people for 6 or overnight. Some people use a fourth cup others use a half a cup.

I i think hot water and a long soak is what helps to strip it. Dont think the measurements matter that much.

Dříve se pralo u řeky, jinak pěkně ručně v neckách a na valše. Prádlo se vždy namáčelo přes noc . I dnes namáčím prádlo + na pračce přidávám extra máchání.
