Thank you so much for the mention. She would have loved it and thought so highly of you and your wife. We always had conversations about your recovery after your stroke and she was so excited for your return to KZitem

I haven't used TikTok, but I worry when Congress just says a particular company is a security risk with a just trust me, bro, attitude. I wish Congress instead had used that energy and concern over our online data to create a comprehensive privacy policy. I don't use Facebook (and will never put it on my phone again) because of how it's been proven to hand off user data in ways I can't control. I'd like to have our representatives actually work on something that protects online privacy across the board instead of just one company.

@@sillystuff6247 I'm glad you can believe that. Usually when our Congress can work on all the same thing, it's because there's a large lobby working on it. I wonder who the lobbyists were for this issue. But then, I'm from a state that has had too many representatives go to the Capitol and reverse course first time they meet a lobbyist. Might be a bit jaded.

A fantastic break down of what this means and if it can be implemented. If it goes through what is that going to mean going forward when the government finds something they don't like. Such a slippery slope. A fantastic break down of what this means and if it can be implemented. Interesting how a government who has compelled speech on various platforms, whether regulated by the government or the platform, is arguing about that for TikTok. That part of the discussion confuses me of them. I think there is more merit in the argument regarding national security.

I have TikTok on my phone, but I don't use it all that often. I see the most Reels / Shorts on KZitem and on the occasional scroll through Facebook.

Have you seen all the Tik Tok ads? Advertising on TV! I’m concerned as China IS a hostile country. Tik tok app has permissions… I wouldn’t trust the source.

I REALLY hate how Tiktok and their supporters keep trying to frame this as an attack against speech. Nobody's speech is harmed here. Anyone who posts on Tiktok can post that EXACT same material on a dozen other platforms. Even TikTok's own speech is not effected, since they can express themselves however they want, they just can't operate a business that has this sort of tie to a foreign power, which is a business issue, not a speech issue.

Congress has no authority over businesses. How many companies do you think operate in the US have a 'tie to a foreign power'? What's different about this one is that Congress is trying to silence opinions they don't like. it has nothing to do with the country of origin. Also, WHAT ties, exactly? So, it's a Chinese company... What proof is there that TikTok is nefarious? I haven't seen any, so what's the threat to security, exactly?
