We are excited to share the very first live performance of Tim Branom’s song “Eagles of Night”.
Tim wrote this song in memory of Layne & Mike.
Backstory told to me by Branom:
“I woke up one day and decided that I wanted to do something for both Layne and Mike but my artistic abilities have gone away but I am still a good songwriter. So I decided to write them the best song that I could. Having known them through the years and things that they said, I was able to add in some of their phrases and things that they would often say. They both told their mothers that they would be a star. So that line is real. And it was really hard for me to get through this song when I performed it at the Layne tribute, and I had to close my eyes and not look at the audience, Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to make it through.
•
I should also tell you, and you can tell this however, you feel fit, but this was the first time it was ever played on stage with a full band. So it was the first full band performance ever at the Layne tribute.” Tim Branom

Read the lyrics below, they are impactful. Long live the legacy of Layne Staley & Mike Starr.

Lyrics:
Layne was born with a golden voice
He loved to sing since he was a boy
And he would dream not of a toy
But to sing with a band
Mike would play the electric bass And every day he'd up the pace
Seattle sent them on a race and it took 'em very far
They said "Someday Mom, I swear to you l'm gonna be a star"
Oh and the gods would weave their web
And make true everything they said
And they brought them members Sean and Jerry
Oh KISW would made it right
Playing "Man In The Box" all night
And every radio station would know their name
They called them Alice In Chains
These are the Eagles Of Night
The memories they made will never die
When two eagles circle the sky
Say goodbye, goodbye Layne and Mike (Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye)
Around the world Facelift played on
And Cameron Crowe helped them along
The only language was the song
But everyone understands
But Layne and Mike said "I need a break.
There's only so much that I can take.
I'II be OK when I awake. I just need time for me."
They said, "I'll be OK, Mom, I swear to you, I just need to sleep.
Oh but Layne never opened his eyes
And Mike couldn't hear our cries
They laid there and their faces filled the skies
Oh Layne what have you done?
And Mike, you're no fun
Why did you have to leave us?
Over thunder, clouds against they fly
Just two souls who guard against the night
Fame was ready for a heavy price
Still I wonder, why oh why?
These are the Eagles Of Night
The memories they made will never die
(Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye)
This is the story of Layne and Mike
