I saw him perform as the lead in Pirates of Penzance, might have been in 1982, I had already seen the Rocky Horror and it BLEW MY MIND that this was the same actor. He was incredible as the Pirate King, even doing some improv during the show, which was so funny and made the whole theater shake with laughter.

The prints we had of 'Paradise Garage' and 'I Do the Rock' which ran before RHPS had broken and been spliced so many times that when we'd get up and dance in front of the screen, cast members knew when the skips were coming and integrated them into the choreography. Hearing the song without the skips now is...weirdly jarring.

G. Numan... Cars - one of my all-time faves, The Rats with I don't like Mondays, J. Jackson before he went jazzy, Nick Lowe/Dave Edmunds/Rockpile!! U2 were young, Joan Jett, The Clash....the music scene was just brusting with greatness. I look at it today and it's just so lame. Granted, I'm also not 18-19-20 years old anymore but still....freaking lame!!

I've loved this song ever since I heard a radio DJ I used to sub for sometimes play it. I know Tim has had a multifaceted career. But I still wish he singing career would have been more successful. Despite what some may think, he knows how to rock.

I remember both this and Paradise Garage before watching the midnight Rocky Horror back in the late 70s at the Varsity theater in U City (Missouri). Great memories.

God he was a gorgeous man back then! OMG! I forgot how deliciously gorgeous indeed! (Side note:. the band QUEEN was emerging as rock icons during the period this video was made, in the "halcion days" of "RHPS".....and ( I find it very noteworthy that Tim Currys exotic, full of energy, performances remind me so of Freddy Mercury's own looks , and performance energy of this time period) .......They both were simply gorgeous and had a way of drawing you in, and engaging the audience on many levels! I doubt Freddie will ever be really forgotten. And if Tim Curry is ever forgotten, .....it won't be ANY TIME SOON.........=)-

I always think of the similarities of Freddie and Tim when i see Tim performing. 😍 Especially the 70's were great for Queen (especially because of Roger's falsettos in their songs which i actually rlly miss in their later projects 😂) and it is just so nice to know that a lot of people see what they both gad in common

I suspect he didn't have Freddie's vocal range - no one ever came close (except Elvis), but yeah, there is definitely that similarity, as well as Bowie sans makeup, and some of Mick's moves. I wish we got to hear more of Tim's range in this one...

Ahhh, the days when singing about doing cocaine wouldn't get you shunned. Heck I was a young 'un (bout 14, circa 88) when I first heard this song, as a big RHPS fan, and it didn't take me too long to realize that "The Rock" wasn't a reference to a dance or rock music. Still catchy though, and oooooooooh that voice.

@@farrahlynne7121 i could have touched his package, i was so close but i behaved myself and only touched his shoe. Me and a few other women got to go backstage and i got his autograph. He had a towel around his neck. Still the best weekend of my life! Such a shame how he is today. He really got gypped.

OK, after he does that part in the song about sports, he pantomimes throwing a ball and the guitarist "catches" it. This is why this stuff was fun.
