Tim Moore was in the band, The Muffins in the 60s and worked as a studio musician for years, f.x. collaboration with his nextdoor neighbor Daryl Hall in Philadelphia. Later worked for bands like Steely Dan and Rolling Stones as a backing vocalist.
Moore was discovered by Frank Zappa, Mothers of Invention, because of his harmonically songwriting style. But an offered debut album failed because Zappa couldn´t find time to be producing.
This Song Second Avenue was Moores debut release, but his record company Famous Music terminated at the same time.
Before a new record deal with Geffen Records in 1974 was established, the wellknown singer Art Garfunkel had bought the rights and put the song out as a only singel. Garfunkels version peaked at no. 34, and Moores own version at no. 58 on Billboard Top Hot 100. Sadly the song then was giving little attention, all though the sales combined would have given Moore his biggest hit as a songwriter and Top 10 hit in the States.
The song featured on Moores selftitled debut album in 1974 and he was praised for his songs by James Taylor and period singasong writers.
Tims 1975 song Love Letters was in 1976 his best known, and a hit for the Scottish popgroup The Bay City Rollers.
A tour in Brazil in 1986 resulted in his ballad and singel Yes, became a 10 week no. 1 hit both in Brazil and in Portugal and a mayor hit in several south american countries.
