I suppose to be fair that the idea of the drums would be partly for this reason. But nowadays the drums are painted with famous historical figures, ancestors held in high regard, military or political paintings, and religious scenes from the Bible. There is also a big competition side to drumming. It's like a culture within a culture, within a culture. Some of the drummers are great musicians in their own right and can play many other instruments, some men or women just like to keep the tradition of drumming their Grandas or Graet Granda's drum. If you are ever on Holliday in Northern Ireland I'm sure you'd be welcome to have a go. It's not easy, it's all about strength, timing, endurance and possibly the head to remember complicated beats or times. Sometimes the drums are played with fifes or even bagpipes etc. Not everyone like to hesr the drums but those that do can be fanatical. Lol 🤣

Hi Alex, We call it the 'Fife', it is a type of flute. When these lambeg drums are played with the fife, you can hear the drums from over two miles away.
