Hi Karishma, I tried solving the following question using your method but I'm getting an answer of 43.75mph but the correct answer is 40mph. Can you please let me know how you would solve this? George traveled from Nashville to Cookville at the speed of 70 miles per hour. Due to heavy traffic, he reduced the speed to 50% and drove from Cookville to Knoxville at this reduced speed. If the distance between Cookville and Knoxville was three times the distance between Nashville and Cookville, what was George's average speed for the entire trip? A. 50 mph B. 45 mph C. 40 mph D. 37.5 pmh E. 35 mph any hack/trick you might use to solve would be helpful too! thanks!!

Devanshi, weights are the time taken for each leg of the journey. They cannot be distance travelled. Check here: anaprep.com/arithmetic-weights-in-weighted-average/ Here you simply use 4/(1/70 + 3/35)

Hello Karishma, You solved the question in example 3 using a combination of algebra and ratios, I was wondering if there is any other alternative method to solve this question. If yes, can you please guide me to it? Thank you 🙂

You can use just algebra too. Say Lara's speed is Sl and Clara's speed is Sc. They meet at M in t mins. Then Sl * t = Sc * 40 and Sc * t = Sl * 10. Now eliminate t from these equations.

Hi Karishma, Have you discussed the last example in any other video of the series? If not, can you please post what's the answer. Thanks in advance. 🙂

Ansh, the example is a part of our GMAT prep package. The answer here is 5:42 pm. In 12 mins Andrea covers 1 mile and Bobby makes up this 1 mile at a relative speed of 2 mph in 30 mins. Hence, he catches up at 5:42.
