Time Sweeps, is a stone sculpture by artist and stonemason Thea Alvin. This permanent public artwork was assembled by the artist and Rowan University student assistants, rock-by-rock, next to Rowan University's Discovery Hall. Construction began on May 24, 2021 and continued for approximately three weeks. Designed as an artwork, amphitheater and outdoor classroom, Time Sweeps, “a melody in motion” invites in-situ contemplation, discovery and learning.
In this short film, create by Rowan Productions, Ms. Alvin discusses the creation of her stone artwork. She discusses the creative process, the nature of the materials, gender, and the labor involved in creating a massive stone sculpture.
The Rowan University Public Art Project was developed by the Rowan University Libraries Digital Scholarship Center in collaboration with University Publications, University Planning, and the Rowan University Art Gallery.
