So I recently read to fertilize roses here in late August because it's still too hot. You think it's ok? All my roses are less than 6 months. Also, I live in Houston and the thrips here have been AWFUL this summer. Maybe because it's more humid? It's frankly made this new rose adventure rough. My rose growing friends say fall and spring are best for roses here in Houston, so I can't wait.

I have never heard of removing the top 2-3 in of soil from a rose so that's a new one for me. So while I wouldn't be doing it here in Houston because of Japanese beetles it would be good to remove all the excess mulch and soil that ends up covering the crown. Plus removing that top layer would also seem to get rid of all the black spot dead leaves and fungal spores. Black spot has been an ongoing menace here in my area of Houston this July with all the rain from hurricane Beryl and now this week long deluge of tropical rain. So hopefully when all this rain mess finally moves out of here in 3 days, I'll definitely make that a goal. I really want a Gertrude jeckyl but have been hoping to find one on it's own roots rather than grafted. I do have climber called Zepherine Drouhin and it's been a terrible mess with black spot. Another black spot disappointment has been Climbing Pinkie! Talk about black spot, I have Pinkie growing on an arbor and it showers diseased black spot leaves all over the place. I've attempted organic solutions such as Neem and bio fungicides but with all this rain, I'm loosing that battle and considering the non organic 3 in one systemic approach for both Zepherine and Pinkie. And then there's that other solution, remove them. Roses should give joy not frustration. Thanks for your insightful video!

Japanese beetles come out in heat, they are everywhere but they live in grass, larvae with no natural predators in North America. Birds don't eat them but I heard Chickens do! I have a routine to walk my garden morning and afternoon and pluck the beetles and dump into a bucket of soapy water. The traps just bring all the flying beetles from everywhere to your yard....they make it worse! The bag may get full but your yard is too. Thank you for this video. I am so glad I found your channel and watched your move because I too am planning a move. I am starting to pot up my roses to move with me and I am going back to watch your previous videos to prepare. I was told to give roses Tomato fertilizer so I tried it and they are thriving. I use RoseTone too it is amazing. Have a great day!

I’m surprised we haven’t seen Japanese beetles! It’s been a good year for roses. So true about the beetles the traps just attract them. Good luck with your move! 😃 In all our moves I’ve learned roses are super tough! If you need to prune their roots go for it they will just grow more once they get to their new home. It’s like reviving them. Good tip about the tomato fertilizing iv heard of it. Thank you tons for watching! All the best on your move. 🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

Greetings from Kentucky, I also grow several David Austin roses both in the ground and in containers. It seems for me anyway, my roses in containers do better than the roses in the ground. In pots I have: Harlow Carr, The Poet's Wife, Princess Anne, Boscobel, Molineux, and Sophy's Rose. In the ground I have Darcey Bussell, Gaberiel Oak, Lady of Shalott, Teasing Georgia, and the amazing Gertrude Jekyll. Japanese Bettle infestation was bad in Kentucky this year. I had to spray twice a day every day to keep them from eating the blooms. Blackspot is not too bad this summer, but I do have to spray once a week with a fungicide. Thanks for the video because you reminded me that I need to get out and feed my roses this week. I enjoy watching your videos seeing all your gardening and landscaping projects. James

Don't use spray on beetles, its toxic just pluck them and put them in a bucket of soapy water. I have been battling them for many years and it becomes a routine. If you are spraying twice a day you can pluck twice a day.

What a lovely collection of roses all beautiful! Those Japanese beetles are awful they need to be treated from the ground. Thats where they multiply and come back in growing season. It’s so hard to take care of because sometimes the infestation is everywhere in others yards and end up in ones garden no matter what. Last garden we created an ecosystem inviting wildlife into the garden so it would take care of the garden worked out for us. I have t seen to much black spot here. Thank you so much for watching! Happy gardening! 🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

We've had 4 straight days of rain...I can't remember rain in July in 10 years. My work in the yard is really backed up, including planting a Conversation Piece multicolor azalea. No beetles or grasshoppers so far, and not that many crickets. Your roses look amazing; the quality of your products shows in your plants.

The rain has been so good! I feel the same way about the garden a little late on some things. It’s great you are planting azalea such a beauty! It will be happy with all the rain. I’ve seen grasshoppers but not to many. Our roses have been doing good hoping for a beautiful fall blooming. 🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

So thank you for your advice on the roses. I definitely am not patient, but I feel with all your advice and guidance I think I will try it again. Maybe put up a list of all the products used only on the roses😃👍🏼 Love you guys, from Oregon 💚💚💚

You have so many beautiful flowers in pots. Where and how are the hydrangeas kept the winter?
@GardenObsessions
2 ай бұрын
Thank you! We live in zone 9 most of our garden is hardy enough for this gardening zone. Hydrangeas are very cold tolerant so they don’t need to be winterized in our area. We try to grow plants at least 2 zones lower than our zone. Some of our pots with petunias or coleus get taken into garage under grow lights for two weeks when sometimes we get hit with frost. Sometimes only at night and brought back out if it’s going be sunny. 💚💚💚💚💚💚

I’ve started with hydrangeas in my beds and hoping to pair them with David Austin roses but I think I need to put drip lines in my garden beds but we only have one faucet about 15 feet from the beginning of my beds…what should I do?

Hello rose lover! They are such beautiful plants. I have used coffee grinds before but not on roses. I hear it can be good but as long as you give the right amount. I stay away from it now and just feed them with the fertilizer we use because they will get everything they need to thrive. 💐🙏💚💚💚💚💚💚
