For those going over from the UK, don't forget to contact your insurance company for your Green Card (international certificate of insurance) which you must now carry with you whilst driving in Europe. brexit bullshit! You will also need to carry a Hi-Vis vest, (for each occupant & must be able to reach it from inside your car) spare bulbs, warning triangle, GB stickers and headlight adaptors. The French requirement to carry two Breathalysers is NOT mandatory but simply advised. (All drivers should possess a breathalyser. However, as of the 25th January 2013 a driver can not be penalised for not carrying one. The fine has been postponed indefinitely. The breathalyser has to be a certified by the French authorities, showing an ‘NF’ number. The official text states that one unused breathalyser should be produced. We recommend that two single-use breathalysers are carried, so if one is used or damaged you will still have a replacement to produce.)

I'm from switzerland and I have the same problem. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer but this is what I found out so far: Technically you need two/ three things: 1) Liability insurance -> to cover damage you do to others. 2) Additional accident insurance (at least in switzerland) to cover injuries to yourself. The standard insurance does not cover risks and may only pay 50% or not at all. This is required if you want to do a racing license. 3) Comprehensive insurance to cover your own car, which is really the least of your concern. I pay more than 2k $ a year for these insurances for normal road driving but as soon as I step onto a "racetrack" NOTHING is covered, yeah not even for TF which is not a race. If you're a german citizen / you live in germany you're in luck, there're many companies that offer track liability insurance and some even the whole package. Maybe there's a company out there that does offer Liability insurance for foreigners but I have to yet find one that does.

Hey Mischa, due to Covid i have saved up 4000€, and I don’t want to go on standard beach vacation. My dream is to get some experience (I only drove a few hours on the simulator) on the nürburgring and so my plan is to spend a couple of days there. Can you make give me a advice, or when other people are also interesset, a Video what would be the perfekt combination with about this amount of money. My idea would be something like that: 1st day: a taxi lap and afterwards two laps with an instructor (Polo/218i) and four laps without. At night hopefully good conversations with drivers and car enthusiasts 2nd day: 4 laps with the Polo/218i in the morning and six laps with the Cupra in the afternoon 3rd day: Six laps with the m2 (two of that with the instructor) Is this a good combination or shoud I more drive with less powerful cars, or should I split it, or is the money thrown away, or is a trackday better? (I am from Austria, working at BMW Engine development, my driving skills are some prototype driving licenses)

Mischa, is there any trick that allow us to register a car in germany without living there ? My thought is that maybe i can register my car in germany and take a classic german insurance that cover me on the nordschleife and always store the car in germany (my car is mainly a track car and the german TUV would allowme to officialy register some basic modifications ) Is there any french guys here ? i plan to go there with an integra dc2, but my insurance refuse to cover me on the nordschleife (Axa assurance), i've contact several other insurance company and each one is refusing me ... How do you guys go there with a valid insurance ? I'm afraid that even if an insurance cover me they will f*cked me over if they need to pay and they noticed that my car is not fully stock (racing brake pads, or even an k&n filter can invalidate my cover) Or maybe i need to go when it's a real trackday and take a trackday insurance ?

I have a question regarding insurance on your rental cars. What does the insurance actually cover in the event of a crash? The reason that I'm asking this is because I know that there was a customer that had crashed one of your cars and he had to pay for a percentage of the damage. So I'm just wondering how it all works. Thank you and hope to visit the ring (and Apex) one day!

Hi! Like every rental car company in the world you are insured, but have excess/deductible that you are liable for. So suppose the excess on the 218i is €9.999 Scenario 1: You spin out and tap the barrier slightly with the bumper. You pay 500€ for the damage and all good. Scenario 2: You got so excited that you sent the car into a Bugatti Chiron that was on the track and destroyed both. The damage is a bit more than the first 500€. You only pay max €9.999.
