I'm somewhat amazed that Di2 has been out for 6 years now and it still requires hacks to get working properly on a TT bike. I realize that Shimano changes things sometimes (battery, junction box size, etc) but still you'd think the manufacturers would have it sorted out by now.

I think Steven Abraham deserves another shout out on the GCN show. He just smashed a 681km ride! Mind boggling in itself, never mind doing it just weeks after returning from a broken ankle!

Interesting to see Tinkoff Saxo using Vision Metron wheels, I thought they use Specialized Roval wheels for the road stages? Also, how did they remove the paintjob from the carbon frame? There must be an efficient way as the result looks great!

Gcn should hire Cosmo catalano

Christoffer Hansen Cosmo should at the very least replace Neal for the U.S. presentations

Christoffer Hansen They already tried, but Cosmo doesn't want to, plus Cosmo wouldn't make much interesting content. You already have Daniel Lloyd and Matt Stephens, both ex pro cyclists, to comment the races (Matt comments on Eurosport and Dan interviews the riders after the stage) These guys can and already do more than Cosmo, they even travel to the race to report from there.

I don't think the suggestion is for Cosmo to replace Dan L or Matt S, they are GCN. Cosmo"s value would be his incisive commentary style. His KZitem channel popularity indicates he would be well received. Re GCN already having attempted to hire him, I had no knowledge of this, and I feel it's a shame for us viewers he declined.

How much faster are these TT bikes over the 'every day' tour bikes? A few km/h over 50 km?
@gcn

***** Massively. The same effort to make a normal road bike go 40kph could make a full TT set up go 47ish kph.

Global Cycling Network Huh, very interesting... but whilst we're on the topic, it would be really really great if you could do a detailed video looking at the difference for an average road cyclist like myself between a bog standard, cheapo road bike (say £500 max) and a more expensive (but still attainable) bike, say £3000. I'm thinking of buying a new bike and would really like to know how much of a difference I could expect to see on my average 30-40 km weekly groupies and 100-150 km solo hilly rides. Is the difference seen on hilly rides or on flat out smashfests? Do it....

It would make bugger all difference in speed. Is it really worth spending another £2.5k to go 2 mins quicker on a 50 mile ride?!

***** I rode a giant defy 3 (alu, about 10.5kg) for 4 years. now on a focus izalco 3K€ bike. It makes a lot of difference, even around 25k. Around 35-40k you can see really a lot. frame stiffness and wheels being the huge factor I guess.

***** Your cheapo bike is going to be just that so expect to upgrade the saddle, pedals, and tires to make it rideable and expect to wear out the mechanicals. Shimano has done a good job improving the low end of their product range but if you are going to put some miles on i you want at least 105 (I wore out an older Sora groupset in one summer of commuting -- 3000 km). If you are going to ride a lot then you will appreciate a decent bike (over $1500) -- I use (as justification to my wife) of spending $1/km/year (or $10-15 per hour/year) as a gauge for what to spend.

Whats the point in stripping the paint off the frame when the bikes have a minimum weight rule to follow (stupid rule)
@gcn

Chris Hitchings TT bikes never get close to the minimum weight rule, so it's actually pretty smart.

Was never a fan of TT specific bikes...almost is like driving a fast car. Those DI2s should be removed from the sport ..next get in a car. Th sport is sponsor marketing garbage. The bike look cool though. ;)
