Ok. You got me. I saw your video for making a paddle with skateboard accents. I am starting a crib for surprise grandbaby #5 but during breaks this old man will be shuffling down to the skateboard shop. You’ve also raised an old dream of building a canoe. I have an affinity for cedar strip canoes, my dad and uncle made one they would strap to the float plane struts and we would fly into remote ponds in northwestern Maine to go fly fishing. It wasn't nearly as nice as yours but it certainly served its purpose. Countless memories that will always be cherished.

Absolutely beautiful canoe! I've been wanting to build one for a few years and always planned on going fairly traditional, but i just MIGHT have to go with a recycled skateboard deck. Such a killer idea

Huge props man, I know you said this was a ‘beginner effort’ for you but it’s easily the most beautiful boat I’ve seen! I love the mix of old and the new touches. And the beautiful painted underside is such a great thing. Something you can enjoy at portage or just knowing it’s there!

haha thanks SOOO much! means a ton and took a lot of time to put together (both the canoe and video). honestly it's pretty light! I own a novacraft Tuff Stuff boat and it's roughly the same. Way lighter than any plastic boat. Probably around the 40-50 lb mark i'm guessing.

i did make the paddle. I started making those first. You don't need to be a carpenter to make a canoe. just a dream haha (& some money for the cedar and epoxy). I just tinker around and build random things, not a carpenter exactly.

Nice work, but in 1:59 shows stapling the slats to the frame partitions. Yet in 7:05 you simply lifted the canoe from the mold. Did I miss a step?

Bradley Mugford the kit was about $2500 CAD, and it really does take about 3-400 hours. all well worth it in my opinion!
