thanks for your video. It helped me with my 2004 pacifica 3.5L timing belt and pump. I made sure marks were in line, it took me 4 tries, it would be 1 tooth off after turning engine by hand. but i eventually got it in line.thanks again.

Great videos did mine today was hard to get belt lined up as when you tighten the belt it stretches and goes off a tooth so when putting belt on i put it off a tooth so when it was tensioned it was perfect took about 15 times in my drieway in the winter lol but glad i attempted as as garage was over 1000 for a quote got new water pump belt tensioner for under 400 if your handy it can be done but its a long process in a driveway and a friend to help hold things will help

Without a clock measurements on top of coil access, the whole job is wrong. The engine will be out of timing. The clock head position measure has to be take on place of the plug number 1 and 2

How does an interference engine survive having a cam out of time? Why no mention of how it is impossible to install the spring-loaded cam tensioner without the cams moving? I spent about 14 hours setting the cams and re-installing the spring loaded thing against the new roller! I bought a tool supposedly engineered to hold the cams in place. I can't figure how it works (I think it's wrong) or it's the wrong one. I search for "how to use cam shaft alignment tool on Chrysler 3.5 and I get everything BUT that or videos that don't address the issue for which I searched. Pictures of a Chrysler 3.5 accompanied by annoying music are no help. I have a 3.5, I don't need to see pictures of one. I need to see how to immobilize the cams so I can continue with this job.

Surviving is just a matter of being lucky, well one tooth is apparently not enough to cause damage. one or two teeth may not cause damage but will set codes or run poorly...Sorry I did not show installation. I think only the rear cam is the one you need to fight with.? Do not remember.. it is trickier, Put belt on crank 1st then to the right cam (near radiator), under water pump, then with a wrench or socket setup hold the rear cam in place while installing belt. I believe that is how i have done it, then down to the tensioner pulley. I have used little clips to hold the belt onto pulleys. Small vice grips would work too, light pressure when clamping belt to pulley.And I have wedged a rag under the belt at the crankshaft to try to hold the belt in place at the crankshaft.

Just changed the water pump and put everything back together. Now it wont start. Could it be the timing is off?

Rolando Velasquez Yes could be. access the timing marks and turn the engine over and try to line up the marks again and verify they are lined up. make sure any cam sensor or crank sensor or coil is not still unplugged.

I have an 06 300 with a 3.5 and the timing mark on the pass side head wont line up. i have had it on and off a dozen times

Top two crank keeps moving a tooth, bottom stays still at tdc after tightening the tensioner, any ideas?

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT, my car was overheating so had it diagnosed. Had the water pump replaced and also the timing belt (80,000 miles on the car). Once out of the shop it was running rough and hesitating, shaking, and rattling and the check engine light would come on, and ding, and then went solid. The RPM's get up to 3000-4500 RPM's before shifting. It went back to the shop today (just 2 days after getting out) and they tell me that cylinder #1, #3 & #5 are all misfiring. What would make it misfire after timing belt replacement?

+Donna Sirmons Exactly what was discovered in this video. The cam is off by a tooth or two. It's their fault. They should fix it properly.

redgeminipa They did finally fix the problem but what they ended up having to do is replace the entire head because of their error with the timing belt (which they never actually owned up to), the valves were open at the wrong time and the pistons hit and bent the valves. Didn't look like there was any damage to the pistons at least. They ended up replacing the head completely on their time for parts and labor.

Why not finish the job, most comments are how did you put it back in time, unless you failed too. This is misleading as people will follow your video then they will be left hanging and do more damage to their cars. Sorry but THUMBS DOWN!!!

timing kit shows valve covers must be removed and rockers pulled to take load off cam. you did not do this or it was not in video. i'm doing one now. do I need to do this?

Just rotato close to mark that what u did work aslong u don't do full turn on any crank or sprockets
