Join PBC Brother Lynx 1963 as he shows us all what available tinder sources there are in his area up there in the Canadian East coast area.
Different areas have different resources for sure, but what we are finding is that most characteristics that we all look for in tinder is generally available in most areas of the world. From crispy dry regions to wet coastal rain forests, we all seem to be able to find decent if not great tinder sources available for helping with fire starting. Some may have to work harder to find proper materials than others, but the common thread here is that if you know what to looks for, there is help for getting your fire going right in front of your face!
Tinder is easily combustible material used to start a fire. Tinder is a finely divided, open material which will begin to glow under a shower of sparks. Air is gently wafted over the glowing tinder until it bursts into flame. The flaming tinder is used to ignite kindling, which in turn is used to ignite the bulk material, to produce a fire.
Tinder can be made of any flammable substance, as long as it is finely divided and has an open structure.
