Wow, thanks Anne! Tinnitus got me and didn’t let me go for weeks... the struggle, anxiety, panic. Your video is a reminder that there is hope to habituate from this. Meditation has really helped me, even tho meditation is a silent activity. I can get closer to the noise and become one with it. “My silence is different to your silence, and that’s ok” Thanks for the vid!!!

Hi Chris. I too took sleeping tablets for a while and then after a few weeks made the decision that I didn’t want to rely on them, so I decided that I had to find a way to sleep. I was once fortunate enough to go to Thailand and slept in the jungle, with a cacophony of nature sounds around me. After a couple of nights I slept fine. So I focussed on that and now I can honestly say I sleep well (well, apart from the menopause 😉) Hope that is helpful for you x

Anne MacNab Thank you for the reply. I sleep with nature sounds too but sometimes when it spikes, I need to take my sleeping pill. My tinnitus fluctuates too much but I have bad days more than good days. It spikes almost everyday. I watched Julian Cowan Hill’s videos and he said it’s stress related but sometimes I don’t find myself stressed up but it spikes so I am lost to why I get it. I tried white noise from apps with my ear piece. I haven’t found any relief so I’m contemplating if I should see a audiologist since it doesn’t help me much

My ENT has offered me nothing but "Vestibular Rehab". It's depressing. I would do anything to get rid of Tinnitis. It is maddening. I'm supposed to have an MRI to make sure I don't have a tumor on a nerve but when they called to schedule it the tech chickened out because I have a piece of steel in my elbow. I've had an MRI before and I tolerated it but they don't care. These medical people are mostly afraid of making any mistake.

I have had tinnitus for 11 years. I have seen three audiologists who have offered me tinnitus retraining but never a masker. I was basically told to live with it. It took me a year to habituate the tinnitus but with hypnosis I managed to do it. I was fine until I got Covid this year. I started to get warped hearing in one ear and a different sound, like this lady’s high pitch squealing. I had to see an audiologist in May this year and he said I had some hearing loss and again nothing could be done other than tinnitus retraining and a hearing aid would not help but there was a wait on the NHS for the retraining. I have decided to try and habituate the sound again by sound therapy and have bought my own portable masker. I find friends and family struggle to understand and will often say “I have tinnitus too” but I try and explain to them how loud my tinnitus is and I also have hyperacusis which makes it worse. What I would say is that your brain will eventually block out the tinnitus with sound therapy and masking. Stress plays a huge part. I don’t fear the tinnitus anymore but I do find this new sound annoying. It is a long road but there is light at the end if it. I had 10 pretty good years until Covid triggered it again. I have hope. Sending love to you all living with this. ♥️

Thanks for the video! At 61, I've had tinnitus for a month now with hearing loss in one ear. ENT Doctors gave me steroids and an MRI. No tumors (yeah!) but no help. I spent many nights at clubs in my youth getting my ears hammered to live music, and now it's time to pay for it. Unable to sleep at night, rooting around on the internet looking for solutions to try, I've noticed lowered effects after drinking magnesium tea (namely CALM) and taking a daily 800mg tumeric tablet. Like you, I've come to accept my new little high-pitched friend, but occasionally I have to look for him since he now hides, I think.

Thank you for sharing your story, and for the tips. I've had tinnitus for years, but the ringing got worse back in 2016. I was having panic attacks and didn't understand why. Part of it was the tinnitus, but it was a hard time in my life which I think is what made it worse. I found that reading books while listening to white noise, helped keep my mind off the tennitus. Also reading helps me get sleepy, if I'm reading something relaxing about nature. Now I have internet and so like to listen to auduobooks, but when my tinnitus flares up, I go to the white noise sounds. One last thing might help, is to keep a routine. I'm real religious with my bedtime and my meals. It doesnt make my tinnitus any better or worse, but feeling in control, not being overtired, or oversyressed, those help immensely for in my dealing with tinnitus.

Hilly Billy my experience is that this is a dangerous line of thinking. Try, ‘this is my new silence,’ instead. Trust me- stay positive, understand you’ve just tuned into a noise you don’t need to hear and focus on productive things; you’ll notice it less and less and less until one day you’ll have to focus on it to hear it. Keep researching positive thinking and I promise it’ll get so much better. Plus I hear we’re closer to a treatment than ever before.

Sorry to hear this, I have or had Tinnitus for a little over a year now. I recovered by 80% in 2 weeks and on my way to a full recovery . Have you tried posture fixing and neck retraction exercises! neck and jaw muscles are connected to your middle ear , your forward neck and jaw posture causes strain on your middle ear causing the Tinnitus Sounds IE. alarms. very rare videos on KZitem talking about this . in about 2 weeks of doing neck retraction exercises you will start to notice improvement . a chiropractor and some neck massage therapy might accelerate the healing process. I can send you 2 KZitem links that I found very useful. let me know I am not saying this will work for you but it worked for me . Sure worth the try.

What concerns the nights sounds : I noticed I like different sounds from day to day. Also, often people mix tinnitus up with hyperaccusis. Hyperaccusis is over sensitivity to sounds. You might hear a sounds that wouldn’t bother anyone else normally, but which sounds like a screech to you. As it happens to be , I have both. I think apart from all the spot on things this amazing lady says, the most important thing is that it IS an indication of how much love we give ourselves. Talk to people, give yourself the space you deserve, take physical and emotional care of yourself. And don’t try to “fix” it. The fact that it is there is kind of irrelevant. What counts is the relationship you have with it. Take care, Fred

THIS is driving me mad. I'm thinking I might have MdDS, BUT I only have the symptoms when I'm home, which makes me think I am hearing somthing nearby, b/c i live on the river and there is a sand company that pumps into it, along with high capacity pumps that provide drinking water to this area. Hi Anne, was wandering if you had heard of the new Lenire device for Tinnitus , it has had some good results for some of the people who have used it, was also wandering if you are continuing to follow Joey Remenyi ? How are you doing these days, ? Be nice to hear an update .

I used to wake up from sleep before my Tinitus but I had it couple of times after loud events and it went away. Then I had a stroke and I have Tinitus really bad in the left ear. I sleep well now, I think because I eat right & try to get some out in the sun. I also have high frequency hearing loss in the same ear which is my main concern now.

Thank you Anne MacNab for your story and tips that have helped you with your tinnitus. The devise you wear nights to produce a nicer buzzing sound I do like. I have a Walkman with head-phones to listen to CD's music when needed. I've had tinnitus 24/7 for as long as I can remember from either childhood flu, ear aches and bronchitis and/or dancing in front of tall floor speakers at discos early teens. I'm now in my 60's, going deaf (due to tinnitus). My tinnitus is louder than the spin cycle of a washing machine and louder than those who speak around me. To hear properly I have to stand next to and facing persons speaking. I can hear better with my left ear so cup it to hear more clearly what's being said on TV. I have TV on too loud (so folk tell me). I'm reluctant to get a hearing aid because I do not want tinnitus intensified. To cope with my tinnitus sounds I've learnt to ignore them and if I can't then I liken them to different 'sounds of nature': A forest of cicadas, 3 separate higher pitches thank goodness are in harmony. another lower whooshing sound is like the wave action of the ocean. At night it sounds like I'm in a jet hurtling through the atmosphere ... (I'm still waiting for the plane to land so I can begin my holiday :-). Other times I feel like I'm standing on a factory floor full of busy machinery. Then there is the sound like it's always raining on the roof. I have to go outside to double check. Meditating the lady said "now everyone enjoy the quiet" ... I'm still waiting.

Hello Anne - I'm sorry you have had to bear this for so long. And some of the psychological ways you have adopted for thinking about it are wonderful . . . I love the 'sounds of nature' idea and also 'in a jet'. I think these attitudinal things are so important in not exacerbating the pain/suffering that comes from simply having Tinnitus in the first place. Another contributor suggested 'My silence is different to your silence' (as of course none of us hear silence at all . . even in an empty room'. Best wishes Anne

@@annemacnab - Thank you ... having had tinnitus for so long I've just had to learn to live with it. I've wondered lately if my body was trying to tell me something. i.e. I'm not listening to it's needs. I think as a child I thought it was normal. I try different things as I come across them. This from the other day may help some but so far no change for me. EFT tapping & visualization kzitem.info/news/bejne/0Zdjn5l5j6qfi5w .

I've recently gotten it pretty bad. But I did several things in combination that have actually gotten rid of it COMPLETELY! So I wanted to share in case I can help anyone in this chat: I booked 3 sessions with an Osteopath in combination with 3 sessions with an acupuncturist. And just like that it's disappeared! I've also started meditating daily, lots of vitamins (I can share if needed), clean eating, no more booze :( and less coffee. I find any stress in general needs to be removed from life in order to really tackle this thing. Anxiety, depression and stress will flare it up for me but I found the vitamin 5HTP helps me manage these moods.

Hi please advise what vitamins you took that helped with Tinnitus

@@sushamajayashekar5583 While I'm not a trained medical doctor by any means: Zinc, B12, Magnesium, 5htp or ginkgo extract to help manage stress, Melatonin to help sleep at night. But the osteopath and acupuncture treatment was probably the best thing I did though to release all the tension and stress around my neck and jaw as it's all connected.

Hi, your video is amazing. I suffered from tinnitus between 2015 and 2016. Once he left (yes is possible in my case after ear damage he totally went) I took it back in 2018 and in a much worst state. since also my dad was sick, and unfortunately passed away. what you say is all true and encouraging. at xmas I switched off and I nearly had it gone. Now I am back at work it has spinned again but will not let it become a tyran.

But what if the cause is LOUD music and not anxiety. I was at a club the noise level was the loudest I've ever heard in my life. The next day my ears were ringing and it hasn't stopped.

Thanks for your video info, you are right about the hearing device , even so small, getting it set at an audiological centre, I am waiting an appointment after just seing again my specialist on ears at the local hospital. Also the fact that when I am in a conversation with people I don't really notice it. It is when one is alone at home. I have tinnitus for 9 years both ears a woshing (not high pitch) sound, have seen many specialists in my country Holland and in Belgium but no solution. For sleeping (since 4 years) use 10 mg Temazepam which gives me at least 6 hrs. non stop, so works well. Acceptance as you say is a key.

Anne, Ive had this for six weeks, came totally out of the blue, level varies widely, heavily influenced by food (I don't drink), just had a despondency attack, felt like screaming but decided to have a look at you tube for something positive, your video has really helped me, I have long periods of what seem like silence but it's probably the brain tuning out the Tinnitus, my sound is similar to yours. I promise you that WHEN I get to the stage you're at that I will post a video and hope that it is as much of a help to someone as you have been to me. God bless

Thank you very much for taking your time, and making this video. People around us dont understand how irritating tinnitus could be. And the doctors are helpless as well. So supporting each other is much more important in our case than any other health condition. I tried to find a cure, went from dr. to dr. at the beginning, used medications, accupuntture, neoral therapy, etc. What I find useful is, first, trying to keep busy, and at nights listening to audio books or nature sounds on youtube. with earbuds.

Dear Anne, thank you so much for this absolutely helpfully video. In the first minutes it was hard to understand your scottish accent, because I am from Germany. But after a while it worked. ;-) I have Tinnitus for 20 years, did the TRT with noisers and I couldnt hear anything the last 18 years. But now, 3 months ago, after a heavy Burnout, it came back. I couldn't believe. I found Julian Cowen Hill, he is great. And another person from Germany. They both help a lot. But I am absolutely convinced, that all what you are telling and the others is true. Now I first have to clear my mental state and then use the noisers again. Now, I try to think postive and to see it as a chance to change something in my life. Best regards, Martina

Food that is acidic can cause the tinnitus to get louder .I found that a small amount of an antacid was helpful. I think tinnitus is a small electric current and acid is a good conductor. Alkaline water may be helpful for some people as well.
