Tinnitus is related to emotional processing. It can be triggered by stress, exacerbated by anxiety, and made worse by obsessive thoughts. Stress and tinnitus are cyclical; a vicious cycle. That's why patients need to make new associations in the brain, and cognitively work to overcome the hard-wired fight or flight response that triggers tinnitus spikes. You need to learn to be at home with your tinnitus. (Not comfortable, I know) But by being aware of, and controlling the physiological responses that manifest your body, you cognitively work to control the condition. Your goal should be to anticipate the panic, understand your tinnitus and your body's reaction to it - that way you can stop being afraid of it when the inevitable spikes arise, as they will until a control of the CNS manifests.

Dr. Parrish is calming and reassuring. My tinnitus is a hi frequency sound hum that never stops. My hearing test showed hearing loss that I was totally unaware. I feel I too young for hearing aids and really don't want or seem to need them. I hope a cure is coming down the pike soon.

It's not emotional attachment...this is the typical ent doctor who has no clue about what people struggling with tinnitus are faced with

Uh the Doctor said she has tinnitus herself. I have tinnitus myself and totally understand the sentiment that most ENTs are extremely cold and beyond not empathetic to tinnitus patients. If you constantly focus on your tinnitus you will perceive it as a threat and it will seem louder. I understand that everyone has a different kind of tinnitus and I thankfully only have a moderate case without measurable hearing loss. That being said it's an incredibly difficult condition to deal with, I don't know what your experience is but I truly wish you the best and that you get all the support you need
