As a lot of the comments I was lucky enough to spend many hours sat on the embankment watching the countless freight trains and light engine movements all day. I even saw the class 76s bringing in freight. Not the same place now but at least it’s still operating 👍🏻

Very sad to see the yard in it's final hours😢. Tuppenny bus ride from Midland Station to Brinsworth 3 magpies, as i recall. Then, a short walk to the embankment to view the activity; class 13 m&s on hump shunting duties with open wagons! Remember them!? Plenty of 37s, 76s and, since 1976, class 56 locos from Doncaster & Crewe BREL plus imported ones from Craiova, Romania. Now, only a select few left as class 69s. Oh, indeed, happier days😮

Absolutely, I remeber how cheap the bus fares were even then back in the 70s ;-)

I remember it in better times, packed full with Loco’s. Thanks John.

Having seen it at it's finest, as a youngster, this is a desperate watch.

A sad end to what was once a very busy yard, like the other Yorkshire yard at Healey Mills both filled with wagons and large sheds for servicing locomotives.

When the pits went so did both yards. Mrs Thatcher didn't really think it out did she?

Why is this depot being closed,? Wouldn't it be easier to keep it open? Rather than just close. The UK had that habit of closing things down for closures sake
