as emergency or temporary shelters that could be moved around or located in remote areas this seems like a doable idea, FT living would be hard though I think....unless its one of several welded together with some sitting upright, like 4-6 of them, that would be something to experiment with as a full time living space.

I wouldn't mind living in something that sort of size preferably a bit bigger enough for a desk to sit properly at. Not as emergency shelter but as part of a modular mobile village if there was other units that would serve as shared kitchen and shower facilitys ect, in fact I really hope to live that way one day. People could live as an ecological workers moving across landscapes or orbiting city's doing seasonal work as an all inclusive scheme to save up money for a few years. It would resolve homelessness if some villages focused on rehabilitation for those who need it before moving on to a working village. Sort of template that could be extended to climate and conflict refugees as well.

@@leifcian4288 I think that's smart thinking. It's not for the faint of heart or the pampered people of the world, but you never know what kind of world we will be living in a decade or two from now. I think it would be a fantastic way to save money, especially if a person has to live away from home to work. There are so many reasons this would actually be a sufficient way to live. China already rents spaces as small or smaller for people to sleep at night after working all day.
@leifcian4288

@@ceeceety2320 Thanks. I use to do natural conservation work as a charity volunteer and I always wanted to do something like that as a legitimate kind of work, its strait forward physical labouring. Having modular/mobile villages It would be a way to make ecologically pro active work more economically viable over larger areas such as natural conservation, development of green belts areas around city's for activities, re patterning of certain agricultural areas to improve landscape hydrology and build top soil, propagating rows of perennial crops in accordance and digging out/building up simple features or constructing/engineering more ambitious projects. Harvesting more frequent layers of more diverse crop yields. Much broader strategy's of animal management and livestock rotation as to integrate into cultivation and management of crop growth phases (ground preparation, fertilisation, pest control, pruning, weeding, clearing ect) . Reclaiming desertified areas and improving defenses of areas prone to flooding. Ecological growth economy. The idea is to design all the units to be simple to move in a variety of ways so that a workforce can be applied to one area at a time in accordance with Ecological Succession over very large areas. I just like the idea of doing a day's work, being able to see what I've physically done and then at the end of the day I'm not far from where I'm staying.

This reminds me of the work I did for one of my customers to turn the tank on the back of his classic lorry into living accommodation. It had to still look like a classic tanker lorry to go to shows and also be a comfortable place for two people to stay in when at the shows. It was really nice an could fool almost everybody. It has a kitchen,bathroom ,seating area and a very nice double bed! They took it on a classic tour and lived in it for a few weeks with no problems.

I see he put alot of work into this. It seems very contemplative--what is home, what is shelter, what is "enough", what is human-scale /proportion for buildings. For me, it seems too utilitarian. As much as humans can reduce their footprint, there is still a call to beauty in the surroundings. There is a missing element of beauty, for me--which seems as vital as shelter itself. That's why the smallest wood hut or teepee is still beautiful--it has organic elements that are familiar to the human psyche. I love that he experimented this way, and that his father renovated the gas station. Thanks for your videos. I still regularly watch about 5 or 6 of your videos as a way to relax. Innermost House is my favorite❤️ Greetings from the Netherlands!

These concepts are intriguing spatial extension exercises, but they are not habitations. I admire Mr. Marro for putting so much though into this, and it makes a challenging art installation as a response to rapid changes wrought on this region by industrialization, but as a structure it is a whimsy. Kirsten, you have one of - if not the most - interesting channels on YT. I particularly liked the array of comments from the various ages of observers at the art installation in town, and how those different perspectives later correlate to Martin's ideas of architectural & archaeological transformations adjacent to the capsule. Also, of personal interest, the interior design, as I'm wanting to transform my SUV into a living space for travel. I'm on a fixed income, and would like to spend my rent money on travel, and creating some sort of photo-journal for my daughter & granddaughter. That's (one reason) why I find so many of your videos so interesting. Almost forgot: it also brought back memories of the old (1960) movie based on H. G. Wells' novel, The Time Machine.

@JuliaB1955

@@ajslade813 I didn't say that they would. There are people who are homeless because they did things like take care of their adult brother with Down syndrome by themselves for 7 years and went broke, especially when the New Jersey state government diverted the developmentally disabled citizen's money to illegals. So not every homeless person is mentally ill or has PTSD or is lazy or a drug addict. Sometime shit happens because they made sacrifices and there are low-lifes embedded in bureaucracies across the USA who do things that they shouldn't until they are drained from the swamp by the Orange Man Good. People still need a place to live in the meantime while they are getting help once all the illegals are expelled from my country and our US tax money and resources are returned to veterans, the developmentally disabled, and other legitimate citizens. Have a nice day

Fair enough. I think the serious and rough experience you mentioned is more in the minority. I empathize, however, the vast majority fall in a much more obvious category. Judging by the size of the tree, this thing is from the 50-60s .. probably someones fall out shelter. Its 100% intact too, just needs cleaned up and repainted inside and the door repaired

Small, sealed, steel spaces are very dangerous - a lot of sailors died that way before they clued up. What happens is that the oxygen in the air combines with the steel to make rust - and that leaves less oxygen in the atmosphere. Let that go on for a while you're breathing about 99% nitrogen and most of the rest is CO2. Time of useful consciousness is measured in seconds. This is also a problem in corrugated steel freight containers - at the very least you always air them out before you enter. Make sure this thing is well ventilated before you enter your art installation, and have fun.
