Let me start by saying that 3 years ago I had a stroke and the state took my CDL and retired me. The recovery time was when I found your channel. It took a while, but you got me inspired to get up and build something. I now have a 12by24 shed that looks like an old time general store. It must look good to other folks too because people keep trying to buy it. Thanks Ken!!!

That's great he made a wooden Spatula for Sandy. Even something for the railroad! Thanks for being so generous to Ken Folks, you know who you are! Nice trailer. Might sell it with the trailer? Talk about a mobile home! Level! I'm so glad it's a nice day for you. I'm glad you get to use your air gun. I'm a little confused about the "floor." I guess I'll have to watch more before I "get it." Hi Ken. Spalting is when fungi get into the wood and cause dark lines throughout the grain. It looks awesome and adds a neat design element to whatever you build with it. I worked with a guy who built the very first tiny house on a trailer in western Canada back in 2014. He had built the first with his dad and needed a real carpenter to come in and refine the process, which I did and showed them how to maximize materials use, proper framing, finishing, etc. He used a flat deck trailer where the wheel wells were inside the width of the deck so we were able to build to maximum width by framing around and over the wheel wells, giving us more interior room.

So excited about this project. Even more so since you've decided to build on top of the side rails. I like the 2" plus 1.5" insulation to bring up to a nice R-value on the floor. That's a nice touch. I'm curious what the overall height will end up being ... because I don't know what the legal limit is for highway transporting. Fun project. Loving it.

I have a 7x14 trailer and to keep it level I welded two brackets for *scissor jacks* on each side at the back and put those down when loading. The jacks are bolted on and the nuts are tack welded so they won't back off and have become a permanent fixture on the trailer. I use a 3/4 socket and a battery-operated impact driver/drill to raise and lower them when needed. There is no sag which allows load or offload without having the trailer attached to the vehicle. Hand crank Jacks would work also but they do not retract as much for road clearance.

I like that the sides are lifted, but it might have been good to keep the center depressed to the original bed of the trailer. This will provide the head room you wanted while pushing cabinets and couches/benches out to the sides. Similar to the old slide in campers that fit into pickup truck beds.

this is what you should do - with some help from bigfoot maybe - I think you want to make the trailer a jig and then stack up wall components in 8x8 ft sections - assemble on site v quickly or sell with trailer - build the trailers too - also with jigs and minimal welding - use grade 8 fasteners #day labor #wildlife day labor

Soooo, what's in the plan to keep this structure on the trailer in case of bumpy roads and hard braking? You can't rely on gravity and drywall screws for that part. Perhaps J-bolts or U-bolts through the finished floor to the trailer frame? Maybe 6 on each side? It needs to be bullet proof out on the highway.

@kenskarpentry
19 күн бұрын
It’s only spanning 6’9”. The rating should be fine
@ronlovell5374
18 күн бұрын
Not once the 4×4's are attached. The total length of wood cantilevering over both sides bringing the span down, plus the 4x's themselves will take a lot of flex out. Best example would be to attach em anywhere from 5 to 6 ft apart with 1 to 1.5 foot cantilever on each side. Many large sheds and cabins are built this way.
@MrC9Oh3
