Setting up a tipi in Canada's Northwest Territories, with all the steps including peeling, smoothing and sanding the spruce poles, putting the poles up, tying on the tipi canvas, and then some final touches for added comfort (especially in the winter) like an inner liner, a see-through ceiling, and a small wood stove. I recorded the video in 1989 so the resolution isn't the greatest, but it's certainly watchable and, I hope, entertaining! :)
It's essential to have a good guide (lots available online) for exactly how to tie the first three poles together and then place their butts the right distance apart when you stand them upright, and also how to add the rest of the poles in the correct sequence. If you get all that right, then the rest of the process is pretty straightforward. It will be time well spent.
