Fascinating watching someone turn a virtual cookie sheet into a complex curved form like that fender. As difficult as it is to see that lower first piece being made it seems incredibly difficult to make the next piece up from it match the curve of the initial piece. It takes an incredible mind to see a piece of metal come to shape like that and understand which side or which end of the piece of metal needs to be tweaked in order to force it into submission. I think I have your kind of patience to a good degree but I have zero knowledge of metal forming Other than watching Masters like yourself. I think you're doing a fantastic service showing your methods and teaching other people this old art form. 👍

Even with all the patterns, I'm impressed with the "art" that is needed to know where on the panel you need to shrink, bend, etc.

Awesome job fitting that complex curve-flange transition Wray. Although those stipple dies are the cat's meow they are quite expensive and I've found that easy pressure with normal shrinking dies with several passes can do a decent job without damaging the material to badly. Looking forward to the continuation of this project but still have a burr in my Sadler to see the completion of the Jag hood fender assy!

It was neat to see the peak of the fender start to match the gage as you shrunk the edge.

Evening... coffee to hand perfect timing Maybe you could do the other side without the shrinker , just as a demonstration ,,, just a thought. This really shows how well a slapper can work , you can really see it moving metal , a very spectacular result.

Got the Lancaster type shrinker/strecher. Not really happy about the marks that it leaves. Usally i shrink or strech so it needs a little bit of more strech and finnish it off with hammer and dolly and sanding with 180/220 paper on an d/a, not perfect scenario but much better than leave the raw marks that shrink/strech leaves. Love your show so much intresting content.

You can have the Lancaster jaws modified to the stipple type - do a search for Lancaster Shrinker-Stretcher Modified Jaws/Stretcher

Do you know if any of the hammer form bucks are still around? You would think they would have been saved if only by some of the workers.

Have you ever seen the Cobra solid wood buck? It is very beat up but still exists. A Ferrari 250 GTO wireform sold for $350000.00 several years ago. To answer your question about the original Talbot Lago bucks I believe they are long gone.

Would it be a crime to make the aluminim body one thickness bigger than the fiber car on purpose? Flexible shape patterns would work inside of the fabricated panels? Hammerforms could be easier to copy from the fiber body too.

What a beautiful car that will be. What do you think about maybe grinding or sanding on the Harbor Freight shrinking dies so the cuts in the metal aren't so deep?
