I’m thinking of grabbing one of these this coming holiday weekend. Would you still recommend it? And did you ever get the firing issues worked out?

Thanks. You are saying that it is catching the "safety notch", yet I hear 2 clicks when you re-cock it. Also, is that narrow extractor designed to jump around the rim and engage the rim upon closing?....or will it actually not close (like a break action). Thanks again for the vid, and I look forward to an update!

The safety notch = half cock. Where you would carry it if you were hunting. No. The extractor will not jump over the rim. It has to have the rim behind it or the action will not close fully. Let me know if that answered your questions.

A true buckhorn sight like that one is basically 3 sights in 1. The notch at the low part is for close in work. the round opening serves as a ghost ring, for medium distance shots. and the tips that almost pinch together at the top is for more long-range shooting. True buck horns are actually pretty useful. Simi-buck horn sights are more common, but I never really cared for them much.

Was there a regulation distance that the top was set for? Very interested in knowing, and appreciate it.

@@murphyfirearmstraining3630 I'm not sure. It shouldn't be too hard to find out. I'm guessing there would be variation from manufacturer to manufacturer. My best guess would be to experiment a little and see what you get.

you ever hear back from tippman on the issues you were having?

During your unboxing you showed that the hammer and block actually touched. I suspect that is the problem with failures to fire. Also, on the unboxing the hammer part that supports the block did not look well finished. The extractor is too narrow. Over all the gun strikes me as cheaply made. Which is unfortunate because I would love to get a rolling block with modern metalurgy in 45-70 or 50-100.

I will be posting a follow-up video, but after disassembling the action I think it is a very strong trigger spring causing the problem (combined with user error). If I shoot this gun like I do all of my magnum revolvers (that is to say, press the trigger and intentionally keep it squeezed back through recoil) it eliminates this issue. I do agree the extractor/ ejector is a bit narrow. I actually love the gun and I am glad I bought it. It is fun to shoot and overall I would rather have it than an antique. I think something from pedersoli would be nicer, but at nearly double the price.

@@murphyfirearmstraining3630 I get that everything is more expensive these days, but the Rolling Block design is the simplest design out there, except for a muzzle loader perhaps. The design is 150 years old but purchasing one is more expensive than an AR platform. I guess you could argue that making more makes each one cheaper but I doubt that is the entire story. anyway looking forward to the disassembly video.

@@chuckaddison5134 I agree with you, but unless someone else starts making them there aren't a lot of options. It really should be cheaper, but then the ones from pedersoli and uberti are even more.

@@murphyfirearmstraining3630 That's unfortunately true. However I've actually tried to contact Tippman about a 45-70 barreled action, or just a receiver but they have never responded. did you buy directly from Tippman or through a dealer?

@@chuckaddison5134 I bought direct from them. I don't think they sell just an action, but Drew would be the person to talk to.

Top of the notch not the top of the horns for all semi buckhorn and buckhorn sites. Most carbines are designed for a 50-100 yard 0. 357 mag carbines are perfectly adequate for 50-75 yard deer hunting and with proper projectile and a good shot can be stretched to 100 yards. This one is having an issue that must be addressed as it currently is not reliable.

I have contacted tippmann and will keep you posted. I guessed the bottom of the notch, and was glad to be right about something on camera with the wife there. Don't intend to hunt with it, but I agree that in my part of the country where shots are usually 40 - 80 yards it will do the job. Surprisingly very little recoil. Thanks for the support.

I think it is a very small clearance issue. Have contacted tippmann and will keep you updated. As you see in the video, it doesn't happen every time (and doesn't happen at all if you yank the trigger). I can see how it got by QC.

@@murphyfirearmstraining3630 The extractor problem is no peach either. Bad design, or oversize case rims lol.

When they are wrong they need fixed. Hard metal doesn't heal itself.
